2 stroke oil in diesel...anyone tried it?

Adding 2T (2T= 2 Stroke) to my Tdi for a while now too. Although I'm not (yet) experiencing a drop in fuel consumption I must say that it makes the mechanical noise less and (therefore?) it feels smoother.
Now, the 2T oil that I used is of the dutch "Action/Techno" brand, and I'm aware that it is not the correct spec (Api TC/Jaso FB, Synth.based) as stated by Timmus.
Recently I bought the Correct spec, Jaso FC, Api TC, ISO-L-EGC....... but it's a full synthetic one.
@timmus Can you tell why it's so important to use only this specific half synthetic based standard and what could happen with use of other spec's, especially when they have higher specs?

Edit; found a post of "Schnelletrecker" in this topic about synthetic versus semi-synthetic.
The conclusion is that full synth produce more ashes and therefore a semi-synth is desired to prevent carbon deposit (please correct me if I'm wrong).

This is uncanny I’m also into hilux and on the forum we have just had same discussion as a result conclusion is it makes no difference but as long as your happy doing so adding 2 stroke oil will not do any harm but it doesn’t quiet down injector rattle we though it may have helped as diesel no longer has sulphur amounts it did years ago ..so that topic is b#ck on the shelf for us ..tc

Interesting - I have been adding and thought it did help but tbh it could well just be a placebo.

I'll use what I have and give it rest for a bit to assess any difference

For what it's worth I have started adding 200ml to 34l tank, halfway through and the car is still a bit noisy but smoother. I will have a better idea in 2 or 3 fill ups.

I liken this topic to Brexit there is several arguments for and against but if it works for some thats great ...I always stick a tin of Wynn’s in with my oil get engine hot with a run before doing an oil change not sure wether it does clean any s**t out but ide like to think so ?..

What is the general consensus.

Are people putting this in pre fill or after filling?
When you are at the physical pump?

I have tried it, it is giving me roughly a 2 to 3 mpg gain on my 210k Fabia but only a slight difference on the A2? Although both are much quieter running and less smoke especially on the Fabia

I have been predominately adding once I get home from the Fuel station.

I would suggest it's best to add before filling as then it mixes much better due to the turbulence as the fuel goes in. Thats how I do ot anyway.

Well I’m definitely going to try it on my next tankful, who wouldn’t want a quieter lump, and I’ve got a bottle of 2T in the shed, I’ll report back .

Not just any 2T, though .... look back through this thread. You should notice some immediate effects (well, I did). I've kept it up and will always add it with every fill.

David , I put 150 ml into half a tank, to me it’s definately quieter, and I seem to have better start up too, I’ll fill up and put 250 ml in next go at the pump.

Well I have been using timmus recipe 2 stroke oil for a good few tankfuls now 200mil per 30 litres diesel and it does seem to have quietened down the engine call it psychosomatic but even sally ?thinks it is ...whatever I will stick with it looking for a good deal on some more ..it’s not big deal to do I carry a couple of 200mil bottles in both a2s ..? yes pop it in pre fill ..
Would prefer 5 litre containers ..I’m concerned if I bought a 25 litre as you use the void in the container would attract moisture (condensation) and contaminate the oil ..it’s why on the bikes even if they aren’t used I do a oil an change if nothing else ..

Bumping this thread as for interest, THIS SITE explains the two-stroke oil certifications so you can make your own mind up on what to look out for.

If I was going down the route of trying two-stroke oil as an additive, I would probably go for THIS AT £6.99 DELIVERED to do so.

Has anyone tried both this and the Millers diesel additive? The latter is what I’ve bought, it’s supposed to do what two-stroke does in terms of quietening the engine but also it has a cetane enhancer too. I wondered if anyone has the ability to compare running the two back-to-back.

I use Millers diesel additive but only during winter. I find it makes a smoother initial start ( glowplugs working correctly ) and does appear to be a little quieter than without. The exhaust is wetter but less sooty, dirty fluid is blown out the tail pipe.

As an old 2 stroke nut ( still own a rd350lc) I would never add 2stroke oil to my diesel due to seeing how much deposits it leaves behind! Im not going down the de coke option thank you. Are our cars to noisy?
rd 350 lc nice one back in the eighties i had one of only 500 kawasaki z1000h fuel injection black and gold should have kept it but needed a kitchen lol

They used to call it “ Upper Cylinder Lubricant “. You would have found it on any Petrol Station or Garage Forcourt in a big Oil Can Dispenser. You paid for it “ by the shot “. They all did it - STP, REDEX, all the major Oil and Fuel Manufacturers etc.

When I was at Technical College for 3 years from 1974 on Day Release from the Garage doing my CGLI and ULCI Motor Vehicle courses they told us it was good to add some sort of Lubricant to Petrol in Cars with Mechanical Fuel Injection e.g. Triumph 2500 PI ( Petrol Injection ) TR6 etc. This prevented a lot of their maladies by lubricating the moving parts of their Mechanical Fuel Injection Systems. We were also taught that this Lubrication Additive was not needed in for Diesel Engines, which all had Mechanical Fuel Injection Systems back then, because of the oily composition of Diesel Fuel which provided its own Lubrication.

Just bumping this post to anyone interested at there's a special offer on for £5.59 delivered for a litre, which is stonking value!
