2001 1.4 TDI misbehaving with a vengeance!

My beloved TDI is giving me grief at the moment, and it's got to the stage where I need to bite several bullets .... but apparently the only place I can go to is Audi.
In order to preserve what little remains of my bank balance, does anyone know where I can source the following at sensible prices:
1) Convenience module
2) Lift pump
3) Exhaust down pipe flexi - which is apparently only available with cat!
Any help much appreciated.... and should be immediate sale for correct components.
Cheers
John

Hi John,

Comtact Mike Tomkins at South Hereford Audi for the convenience unit, not going to be cheap, but then they are well over £200 anyway.

As to the flexi joint in the exhaust, any decent exhaust specialist can replace this part in isolation (Pipewerx in Burscough for instance) and leave the cat in place, saving a lot of money.

I don't know what you mean by the lift pump, but explain further and we'll try to help.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike - as always!
Looks like we've both decided the repair route is best way to tackle exhaust, so that's in hand.
Convenience unit - yes, I've finally decided to buy the part, so Audi here we come. Shame I didn't buy one off you (I think), when offered at good discount a year ago!
Car has developed a starting issue, and my very good, but non specialist local garage reckons that it may well be the fuel lift pump which isn't delivering the necessary diesel.... and needless to say, it costs over £200 from Audi (does every non pattern part cost £200 odd + VAT from Audi?)!
Cheers

Ha! A full diagnosis would be recommended first before shelling out on a pump.

As to the convenience unit, get the part and plug it in - you'll find that it needs coding and your keys need matching to it. Audi will charge you around another £100 for this, whereas a local member with VagCom (and the necessary know how) will be around £25!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi John, re the starting problem, I'm assuming the battery is in good condition and the engine cranks over at normal speed.
If so, a few members have had poor starting problems which were related to the fuel filter causing fuel drain back when left for long periods. If the filter has been changed recently, been replaced with a 'pattern' part or if there is fuel leaking onto your drive (check underneath the car around the rear passenger side footwell area) this is the probable cause.
A failed camshaft position sensor is another possibility but this would be picked up with a diagnostic scan.
The lift pump in the fuel tank would be the last thing to check on my list.

Cheers Spike
