2004 A2 1.4 Petrol

Hello everyone-this is the car that I decided to buy when I left the motor industry after 22 years of selling VW's -a 2004 Audi A2 1.4 Petrol. I was working at a VW/Audi dealership in 2000 when the A2 was launched in Ireland and was not a fan of it at the time as A. I didn't understand the concept and B. It was horrendously expensive and very badly equipped thus making it a very hard sell in Ireland at the time. As a result of this the vast majority of A2's in Ireland are UK imports.

Indeed the only memory that I have of the A2 at the time is driving a silver demo A2 around Dublin one rainy night with the car shaking over and back in unison with the windscreen wiper. However I have come to appreciate the design and concept over time.

This is an A2 that was delivered new in Ireland in 2004. I am pretty certain that all A2's were sold in one trim level only and that you had to pay for every single option that you wanted rather as part of an 'SE' or 'Sport' specification. As a result while this is a car that was ordered with Digital Aircoditioning, heated seats, leather steering wheel , leather interior (twist), rear parking sensors and Metallic paint, it comes without remote central locking and alloy wheels (the advantage of this is that hubcaps are still available from Audi at a cost of €200 including Vat)

This particular car came up at a competitor dealer last July and in a rush of blood to the head I bought it sight unseen ( the fact that it had lowish mileage, had a high specification and that it was registeted to the county that I am from). On collection the car looked ok ish though subsequent cleaning revealed that the car ideally needs a full respray along with a new front bumper (a Votex body kit would also cover up the damage on the lower part of the bumper instead!) in order to have the car at the standard that I would like it. The interior was also in ok if dirty condition, however the leather on the passenger and rear seats was in remarkable condition and there was only minor creasing on the drivers seat leather-a testament to the leather that Audi used at the time or that the car was only used by one if careless person.

Immediately however the car needed a new catalytic converter (an engine management light on first start up was another disappointment) and a couple of weeks later it required an egr. (Proof that even seasoned carsales people make mistakes).

At the moment the car is awaiting a V68 flap motor (thanks to everyone that on here that has helped me with that), it needs 4 tyres, a full service and a timing belt-so a lot of money needs to be spent. I am in two minds honestly wheather to sell the car and buy a better one or invest a lot of money in such a needy car that has got under my skin none the less.

Beautiful car, with a lovely color combination. I am sure with a bit of TLC it will look amazing again ?
