3 Cylinder TDI Electric hybrid with 69MPG and 90g/CO2/km

To be fair, the 69mpg must be a US gallon, otherwise the figures don't not make sense. I'll wait for the VW 1L in 2010/11! I hope your wife approves of the Loremo, Lukas!

I can't understand all the fuss about Hybrid and even EV cars.

Look at the Tesla - it's 40% heavier than an Elise. OK it's super fast but super costly as well. If charged from conventional power station it pumps out an equivalent of 140 g/km CO2 - using latest coal fired technology. Normal Elise? 163g/km Co2 !

Now BMW is promoting new Hybrid X5

What is the point of all that weight!

And how would the grid cope if everyone switched to EV Smart cars?

Whilst I am dead against the whole deforestation to feed our cows and gen 1 biofuels / food v fuel nonsense, I think I'll stick with GEN 2 bio fuel as next best thing. Now where are those Jatropha tree sapplings, WVO outlets and sustainable wood chips ......

Spot on! The only advantage is driving around town and who wants to do that? Outside towns it's just excess weight. However, nuclear power plants have to be run at constant load so charging cars at night is one way of using the power generated, not that I'm pro-nuclear!
