4 beeps, lock/unlock and alarm

Hi,
Just hoped someone might confirm my thoughts.

1) Every time the key is placed in the ignition just as starting all the doors do a clicky lock unlock. (thats always been the case, six months)
2) A few times Ive opened the boot and left it open for a few minutes. Then the alarm has gone off.
3) Now Im occasionally getting four beeps on engine start. It happened yesterday morning and also yesterday evening after a 100mile drive.

From reading around on here I'm going to guess that the microswitch in the tailgate is faulty but have no idea where it is and how to replace it. Any thoughts and advice would be great.

Thanks
N

The tailgate micro switch is the entire catch to be re-placed, this may cure 1 of the faults but not sure this is the curse of the others maybe a ccu going down. your best bet is finding someone near you with a vag.com to give your car a scan and go from there, go on the maps at the top of the page and see who's closest

Cheers Phil

Hi N
The 4 beeps is the alarm siren indicating there is a fault with the alarm system - see this thread for more info - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4350&highlight=beeps
I've also had a faulty tailgate microswitch and as Phil indicated, the whole boot lock needs replacing. Apart from the alarm sounding if the tailgate is opened first, the other symptom is the boot light does not work. If you plan to do the work yourself there is some info on removing the tailgate trim panel here - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10439&highlight=boot+light

thanks for the info. No vagcom owners in northern ireland unfortunately. Maybe Ill have a look around for a version myself.

Phil do you remember off the top of your head how much the tailgate catch cost?

thanks
N

Un-sure what the price is retail as i got it dicounted through work, i think they are about £30ish maybe less.

The vagcom is about £250 i think theres a link on here somewhere

Phil

PS the hardest part was fitting the outer cover (well getting it off the old catch), may be worht seeing how much this is at the same time, it took me longer to do that than the rest of the job
