60K 2nd Vari Service - Cambelt and what else?

Just ticked over 60K and checked the service indicator which says 2.5K to the next variable service.
Car is 4yrs old and a TDI - I know I'm going to be in for the service, cambelt and brake fluid + anything else they might "find". Is there anything that I should be changed routinely, given the amount of dismantling that will take place. The obvious one being the water pump but is this really neccessary?

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan
In my opinion I would definitely have the water pump replaced. The pump is onlt £25 exchange but it will add a bit more labour plus the cost of new anti freeze.
I know Audi don't have a change period for their coolant but the anti corrosion additives do deplete over time so it's worth doing.
There is probably a 25% chance of the water pump failing before the next cambelt change is due - and if it does you'll have to pay for the whole cambelt job to be re-done.

Cheers Spike

The reason for changing the warter pump is that when you put new belt the tension put on new belt is greater this puts moor strain on old warter pump bearing plus it has 60k of wear under its belt to boot
when the warter pump dose go you have to take the cam bealt off to get to it as it is driven by the cam belt

cheers

i went 120,000 miles on the same water pump, when I called the dealer at 60,000 they said they would inspect it, and replace if necessary... it wasn't... I have the old one on my desk, as I did have it changed at 120,000 miles, it looks like new!

The VAG specialist who will be servicing my A2 stated he would inspect the pump and replace if necessary, however to back up bba's point he said they can last for much longer than you may expect

Hi. My 60k varible services usually come in at around the 650.00 mark for cam belt and 60k service inc parts labour and vat.My brake fluid has never been replaced in 180k,Ive followed any advice given by local audi dealer, the brakes seem fine.

Hi Jonathon,

It may be a bit far for you but I would definately recommend stoke audi - just had my cambelt changed for £250!! They are doing some great offers on servicing aswell. I dealt with Andy and he was very helpful, you could save some bit bucks !!!:D

Hello Chummies

Some more Stoke comments....

Just had my 2002 1.4 SE 45k variable service at Stoke Audi - only £139 as quoted plus £70 (incl £20 fluid) for an on the spot recommended brake fluid change - not sure if that was the cost effective thing reading the above (180K fluid) , but took a safety line and the brakes do feel better. Perhaps it's damper up north.

I dealt with Andy who I agree was very helpful. Cambelt due at 5 years old this September and I'll gladly use them again. They also let me watch Trisha and sit with people who had Allroads without discrimination.
