70mpg - but not in my A2

70mpg on the drive home from the petrol station :)

The previous tank averaged 59mpg (full to full calculation)

If I can average near 60mpg for most of my tanks I'll be more than happy with this car.

Which model/engine?

I managed 72 MPG on a drive from Leics to Kent, mainly due to M1 roadworks (long 50 MPH stretches) in my 90 TDI last week.

I like the Civic, snappy design! Makes you wonder what MPG gains we might have seen if they continued to develop the A2 and updated the engines...

dan: I know someone who drives a Golf Bluemotion 1.6 diesel. He has seen 80mpg. Which when you consider it's size and weight is quite decent. That engine in an A2 body could nudge 100mpg maybe!?

Would it be possible, further down the line, to swap a different, similarly-sized modern engine and its ECU into the A2?

Exactly my point. We will never know...

Averaged 88mpg alone in the polo GLA-INV and with three people plus 30kg of luggage,a trolley jack ( dont ask ) and a trip to Ikea and Braehead and got 72mpg on a 380 mile trip.
Very pleased.

The civics a bigger car though

The A2 struggles to get mid 50's doing the same.
