OK all my dealer is now saying he cant get me any discount on any A2 thats in any other dealership and so now we've run out of TDi 90 options s o now I am some what reluctantly considering a 1.6 FSi.
So I know what the performance figures are for these models but what are the real life ownership differences for the 1.6??,
what is economy like??..
faults or bad traits?? etc.
Please, thankyou, boo hoo my wife is winging cos she wants an A2 already!!:(

i have a 2002 tdi se 75bhp........from new.have had a couple of fsi as courtesy cars.....no offence to members who own them but.......the tdi beats it hands down....the petrol seems flat as a ''fert'' after driving a diesel.... go for the diesel...the 75 is a great bit of kit.....quicker off the mark than my mates gti tdi golf!! which really hacks him off !! and it climbs hills without effort!

the diesel has the pulling power but the fsi has the refinement. in the fsi expect easy controls, low noise levels and in the higher revs petrol performance over the sluggish diesel. the diesel will pull more rapidly but you will have shorter gear changes and heavier controls. from my experience the tdi does feel like more of a vehicle where as the fsi tends to feel more like a runaround.. if thats a viable comment to make.

tdi has a turbo charger so the engine will have more to go wrong potentially but practically maybe not so.

make sure you get the 1.6 as the 1.4 petrol is very underpowered.

the sport is definately the trim level to go for (in my opinion) and i get a very steady 42.5mpg with super unleaded from various driving speeds etc in my 1.6 (76K mi) i dont drive it hard as theres no need but i believe i could get better mpg if tried

I get around 45 mpg on regular unleaded in my FSI. No problems whatsoever during the 4 years of ownership. We chose the FSI over the (then 75) TDI for 2 simple reasons. Firstly, my wife didn't like the diesel sound and secondly, I was interested in the unique technology behind the engine - seemed appropriate to couple it with the innovative body/design of the A2 in general.

Our current member stats show 13% FSI owners and 11% - so fairly evenly split.

Get a new dealer. It's just a ploy to sell local stock - thereby making them more commission. I get pretty sick of the salesman tactics of these dealers. Try ringing around the Audi dealers yourself - you might find one that is more accommodating.

Having owned both I would pick an FSI every time. Unfortunately when I wanted to purchase a new FSI they were no longer available. My previous FSI averaged 41.7mpg over 40700m (a high of 46.6, a low of 32.2) always measured over a full tank refill. The FSI is much smoother, faster accelerating and seemed to handle better ~ probably because of the lower weight. Servicing is cheaper on the FSI, but comes around more frequently, at about 18~19000m on the FSI compared to nearer 30000m for the TDI assuming you are on VSI and do the mileage in 2yrs ~ I won't!
The FSI doesn't have the torque and hill climbing ability at lower revs so you may have to change down if you live in a hilly area and travel more than one up. On ordinary roads and motorways the FSI is faster and much quieter.
Finally, they are quite different cars and appeal to different driving styles. For me FSI rules ~ a very sad loss when it went.

Wow thanks again everyone very interesting.
Our main problem is that we have to trade in our 54 Zafira SRi cos nobody wants it!!??,
The dealer has offered us a 75bhp TDi 54 with 12k in silver Non SE for £10500 but it has a bench seat and we really do need split folding and I was dubious(sp?) about it not being an SE(it does have Climate tho) was a good price since it was advertised for £13000 !!! but was from his own stock.
I found a few and one in particular in blue at Crewe Audi but our salesman said he couldnt get any discount on it!!??.
I wont spend £13k on one cos that is new style A3 territory.
Interesting about not liking the TDi noise cos that is something i really liked but hey the wifes already said I'm strange:D .
I really am not sure what to go for, really want a 90bhp TDi but he says he cant get me one and wife keeps asking about the FSI 1.6,,,,

Oh well watch this space -should speak to dealer today
btw he has been good in the past we bought two cars(A2 and A4) from him in past even without seeing them and they were both fab cars which we regret selling so cant see why he cant help us more this time.
(Keep ideas and thoughts coming-all helpful and interesting).
Have a good day all,
Regards Andy.

Expensive Tdi 75?

Andy, £10,500 sounds expensive to me for a 54 Tdi75 with 12k on the clock. It may be that prices are beginning to rise.....great economy, low road tax etc. boosting demand for the A2. I bought, in January, an 05 Tdi75 SE with 6k on the clock for £10,500. The car was immaculate....dealers demonstrator and is a dream to drive. Nearly always 70 mpg and still 65 mpg on a recent 300 mile A road journey, fully loaded with 4 adults and luggage.

Like others have said search other dealers.....I know Robinsons in Norwich had an 05 (I think) Tdi 90 in stock a short while ago.

Thanks for that , the trouble is , is that I need to PX my zafira and also I have seen that car at Robinsons as it was the one I really wanted, TDi sport in Akoya silver!! .
I shall fone a few other over the next few days.
Regards Andy.
