A “Unicorn” A2 has been found.

This is the scenario my mucker played out when I told him about the existence of a moth balled A2. (he used to work for Glasgow Audi when the A2 was available). Perhaps this also gave rise to the huge supply of pre registered stock. What Gavin told me if you didnt register the cars in time for the legislation change it was crusher time. Sounds horrendous. I muse that's also why manufacturers get ready for the legislation changes in plenty time so that potential does not occur. Can't comment on how this impacts on our Unicorn A2. But I'm sure Ian will walk us through the journey. Looking forward to it.
Yes, there was of excess stock registered however was mostly volume manufacturer mundane stuff (fords/Vauxhall’s etc.). Dealers got a bigger volume bonus if they flogged these cars first and encouraged a lot of people to buy older cars as they were saving 000’s and got free servicing etc. They flipped a lot out to companies for their company car fleets and I remember at the time that I could get a Ford Mondeo (couldn’t choose spec) for around £200 per month.

Crusher - not sure about this, I think it was a ploy by manufacturers make dealers sell them quickly but since Audi’s were ordered to spec, I can’t imagine they had any left over stock.

I’m pretty sure Ian will be able to register on a ‘60’ unless there’s some loophole around low volume/non production vehicles.

I don’t think it’s possible to register it as a 60 reg. They would either go from the date you register it or give an age related plate for the date the vehicle was produced. As previously discussed this would either end up with an age related plate or a Q plate, though he was confident he could get it on a 21 plate so we will see.

It’s going to be later than 1st of March, as I can’t get it out of its current storage and into the dealers to be commissioned until lockdown is over. It’s over 200 miles away from where I live.
The suspense is unbearable ?? That makes sense of course ref the pandemic . A big ask however with the interest this will generate it would be so fantastic to have a photo blog of this car being commissioned for use. Have you made any enquiries about the registration issues (unregistered euro 4 car) we've been debating Ian @Bargepower ?

Dont think petrol emissions have changed since 2002?

The registration issues are being sorted by the dealership. They’re getting conflicting information from the DVLA at the moment.
There will be many, many photos take of the commissioning which I’ll happily share on the forum once things are in motion.
It’s all down to Boris now....

Glad to hear you're well Ian. I would love to do a proper photo shoot of the car when it comes out. Got a photo studio in mind.
Well, that may depend where the studio is. A professional photographer is already lined up for a session in July from a motoring magazine - presuming we’re allowed out to play by then.
I’m not intending for “Dave” (too much OFAH!) to be coming South very often, although he will have a day trip to visit @Birchall and @Proghound.
The car will be used, but lightly, and at the end of the day nestled back in its heated garage in Llandudno.
I have a couple of holiday homes I rent out in Wales, one which has a very secure garage to which holiday makers have no access.
If I kept it in London, it would be parked on the street, most likely the A40, and even I’m not that sadistic!
My current Y plate 1.4 will be doing the long haul to get me to it every couple of weeks. My annual mileage in that car is around 18k, the new one I’ll be keeping well under 5k.
I do envisage a few trips to visit a certain member in St Anne’s upon the Sea though, in fact that will probably be the car’s first destination!
I’m chomping at the bit to get the car commissioned, but until I have a definite date once we’re released from lockdown, I’ll shut up.

Too much information already Ian ;) I have no doubt that mileage will be limited and totally understand. I don't mind being "2nd fiddle" on a photo shoot if the opportunity arises, and will sign any necessary NDAs ;)

Keep up the good work!
