A breaker restored!

Some interior "After shots".

The leather is really good and the rest of the interior is fine (One broken hinge on the glove-box though, but it still closes).

One of the shots of the Steering wheel just about shows the Cruise and DIS stalks (cruise not connected and the cluster is non-DIS)

That's come up really nicely Steve. The interior in particular is a marked improvement on the before pics. How did the carpets come up under the new mats and what did you use on them?

Well done old boy! I think you should at least be breaking even on the sales, running at a loss just seems immoral.

P.S. I can't see the second set of shots for some reason.

Thanks John,

I have reloaded the second asset and they should be OK now.

I am not losing really, I had a lot of fun and learned a lot too, and had the pleasure of "saving" a car!!!

So to me, I am even,

Hi,
Thanks

The carpets came up quite well, I just bought some "Cillit bang" stuff for the stains and a general carpet cleaner for the rest. They are not perfect but very presentable!

The new carpets are something that always seems worth it for a little over £20.

Thanks John,

On the second set you have to click the links (perhaps it was because there were more shots?

Thank you for that!

By the way the 1.4 (Breaker restored) may well be available if anyone is interested, the potential buyer is not sure about the grey interior.

As for the next project, this will not be sold, this will be my "keeper".

Base is a low mileage (57K) 2003 TDI SE with Alcantara / Leather Sport Seats, OSS and double DIN in Dolphin Grey.

It will have, when I have finished

Square Bottom MFSW (with single airbag)
RNS - E (already purchased), with Sat Nav, Voice activation and Audi Bluetooth
Full leather (Heated and Lumbar) (probably cream with black piping)
Six Speed box (and the 6 speed gearstick centre to make it look OEM, already purchased)
17" Sport Alloys (and a set of 18" Sport Alloys, for occasional / show use)
Retrofitted DIS, Cruise control, parking aids (and headlight washers if I can source a bumper)
White dash dials (already purchased)
A remap
Possible re-spray in deep shiny BLACK (my favourite colour for the A2 with Sport alloys), not 100% sure.
Rear floor box (already purchased)
Rear cup holder unit
Might try and source a sideguard unit, but not easy to locate!!!
Auto Dimming rear view and heated door mirrors
I am sure there is more I forgot (happy for anyone to point out things I have missed)

Mods I won't be doing,
Rear Anti Roll Bar
"Comfort Blinker" (I can't understand the point of that!, You can select how many flashes you want anyway, just by pressing the stalk to the first resistance point)
Brake upgrade - I prefer OEM Brakes that were designed for the car, but I do like the sight of larger discs with decent callipers.

As I say, this will be a "keeper" it will be one to replace my fully specced A1 that is just about to go!

Old (A1) and new (A2) (as yet untouched)
(With the 1.4 in the background and the other 2 A2s were being used at the time)

Update on "the breaker restored"

My mechanic has stripped everything down again after checking the injectors and finding no fault.
The problem is definitely with Cylinder 2 (getting misfire warnings) swapped the injectors and still getting the same message.

Via a process of elimination it can now only be a problem with the hydraulic lifters or "sticky valves" so both will be replaced.
16 lifters and four valves and valve stems!!

I am determined to get this running sweetly to match the rest of the car.

I am going to lose a fair bit on the car, but I won't sell a car with a fault and I won't sell a car for more than the going value for the year and spec, regardless of how much it has cost.

So the price stays at £1,800. If anyone is genuinely interested let me know I have some already that have expressed an interest so it will be first come first served!

Might I suggest you start a new thread. I am a bit confused as to what you are keeping/selling, perhaps its my old head but I do get a bit mixed up nowadays!

Good point.

I will create a new post and close this one when the work has been done and the car is totally ready.

Hi

The car is now running as it should and is available at the price I originally quoted (£1,800) even though a lot m,ore money has now been spent.

The car will have standard SE wheels (just about to buy these from Sailesh) instead of the AVUS wheels (which are now up for sale and the ad will go on the "for sale" section shortly.

Cheers

Just got back to Yorkshire with Otto (he needed a name).... extremely pleased, a massive thanks to Steve B (my new hero) for doing a great job on this car ... it ran beautifully on the 230 mile return trip at a steady 70 mph (once i'd cleared the traffic) using about 2/3 tank, which i reckon is about right (i was sat for an hour on the m25 and another hour on the a1)...

Well done Steve :)
Simon sure got a bargain!

He was very happy with the car.

I texted him 5 hours after he left for home, to see if he made it home ok (Yorkshire, I think!!!) He responded with

"Hell ! Not home yet, Otto (he seems to have given the A2 a name already) hasn't missed a beat!!! V Happy"

So good to know that the great little "rescued" A2 was still running strong on such a long journey!!

I think that "Otto" has a long life ahead of him!

Good to know there's a happy ending. Steve is somewhat of a rescue vet when it comes to sick and neglected A2s.. :)
