A thought

Hi I have 1.4 petrol it’s done 180000 the body is as expected fine interior also good. Has some small things but generally fine. I am thinking of keeping it long term as it is spot on for what I do for a living and home life. It’s basically a little car that turns to a little van can carry 600 bread rolls in crates and fly round back roads just nicely. So has anyone any idea roughly how much a new engine and gear box cost to fit. There’s nothing really wrong with engine and gear box in it naw but if goes spectacularly wrong at the wrong time of year I’d be up the creek royal.

There’s an old saying, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and I think that applies here. If the car is still reliable and returning good mpg then why look to change the engine.

For piece of mind you could keep an eye out for a decent engine and gearbox and keep them in storage. Any decent mechanic shouldn’t need more than a day and half maximum to change an engine and box so if you have one ready then you shouldn’t be off the road long of the worst happened.

Why not have another a2 in reserve, most likely cheaper
