Hi, I have an A2 1.4 se petrol 2002, I took it to my local garage to have a track rod end sorted and over night my mechanic rang me to say the car wont start, but the thing was the central locking from the key fob would not work but opened manually then when inserted into ignition the aircon system not working and the dash computer not working or fuel gauge etc only handbrake and battery light come on, car turns over but wont fire. We have put the diagnostic tool on, and it returns to say the ECU is BLOCKED and there is fault codes for the Dash and Aircon but wont allow us to clear the issues. Any help as me and my mechanic are very baffled as the car has ran like a dream over the past 2years of ownership!!!

Thanks Daniel

Check all connections in the passenger footwell are tight and good.

Also, as the main wiring loom exits through the floor here, near to where the nearside track rod is, there is a possiblily that something has been disturbed.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I will have this checked tomorrow morning to make sure nothing has been disturbed, but feel that after the car has run so well and suddenly so many electronic systems have gone wrong that a major problem has occured such as a replacement ECU!!

Thanks Daniel

Hi Daniel
It is unusual for a healthy car to suddenly develop multiple electrical problems affecting what appears to be more than one of the control modules. I can't see these applying in your case but some of the things which can cause this are -
Water / moisture in the electrics - check the front footwell compartment under the carpet for this as well as loose connectors as Mike suggested.
Welding on the car without disconnecting the battery
Fast charging the battery without disconnecting it first.

Engine ECU's can often be checked / repaired so don't automatically buy a new one if it comes down to this - http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/

Cheers Spike
