A2 Bose Retrofit

Hi just wondering if you can fit bose speakers into a standard car without the amplifier and just plug them into the existing loom.

they are a lower impedance, 2 ohms I think as against 4 ohms for the std speakers. this will not be good for most head units as the range is normally 4 to 16 ohms

No, you mustn’t do this. The unusually low impedance of the Bose speakers will stress the standard amplifiers, especially at high volume. A proper Bose retrofit involves fitting the correct wiring looms, the Bose amplifier, etc, etc. It’s very much an all-or-nothing thing.

Cheers,

Tom

Thank you very much at least I know now.

You may have a look here if you want more sound; hidden.

The 8 inch active subwoofer is hidden under the drivers seat, and the Pioneer headunit is set with a crossover that remove low frequency bass from the door speakers and instead let the subwoofer take care of that. This way door speakers play more undistorted as well as being capable of playing louder.
