A2 Door Cracking

my 2001 A2 TDI has just very recently started making a "cracking" noise 2 to 3 in succession as i open the driver's side door...

this is a completely different "cracking" that what you guys are talking about? or does the crack in the metal make your door make a cracking sound when you open it too?
I think what you've describing is an audible cracking noise, which is different to the physical cracking of the metal around the hinge points on the front doors of our A2s. Your noise will be caused by the door check strap, which is well documented on A2OC and is a relatively easy and cheap repair.

Hi I do indeed offer remanufactured door check straps. They are better than the Audi originals in that I replace the plastic rollers with brass ones and the aluminium rivets with aircraft grade stainless steel bolts They will outlast your A2 if a little white geese is applied a couple of times a year
They are £25 each and currently I have stock available. I do need your old one returned though
Drop me a pm if you want more info
Btw Steveb got my user names slightly wrong suspect autocorrect was to blame
Cheers

Yes, spellcheckers are great MOST of the time!

Such as your "white GEESE" LOL

Is that like Duck grease? :)

Sorry about maintaining the "Swerve" on this thread but I have a true story relating to the misspelling of a word, causing problems.

I was working for Hitachi years ago and they were starting to do more business selling PCs and associated items.

At the time they sold "three and a quarter inch floppy discs".

One of the sales girls was updating the master data, including the description and accidentally (she claims) changed one word.

Intending to key "discs" she keyed "dics" which, when read with the whole description, did change the meaning quite a bit - OOPS

Update.

Audi Cheltenham looked and said... yes it's cracked but Audi won't cover it due to age (out of body warranty now).

I spoke to the technician who inspected it and he was very helpful giving me part numbers etc of the kit required from Audi to repair it.

I've ordered the parts from TPS (£25-40 total I think) and will fit them myself.

Audi Cheltenham also cleaned it thoroughly inside and out without charge... very decent of them. :)

Can you share the info on the parts required to fix this. Thank
