Hi, could anyone help to identify this? Its a seal under the plastic cowl panel cover.Self adhesive foam rubber.
I can not find the partnumber, if it has one?
I think the same material is used in the front radiator support( slam panel) going from one side to the other.(2nd pic)
Both needs to be replaced after nearly 20 years.

I used xpanda - foam tape. (There are other brands but they don't have a picture of a panda)
Designed for installing building window frames.
Costs about 10 pounds, thought what's to loose

Thx, Beady. I guess that could work fine.I know of that kind of tape, I think- on a roll, but get into shape when rolled out?
If it`s acceptable for the window industry it is probably possible to use here also.
Still a bit strange its not listed as a spare part.

You could be right again Spike.
But.
The shape of it, don`t add up, the German forum refers to this item (5) as a seal strip to be mounted around the intake.
I believe thats under (on) the bonnet,- the seal that meet with the fresh air inntake.

Ref the 'shape' I read the description as a sealing strip 10mm x 5 mm cross section x 2034mm long which you presumably stick round the edge of the panel in a sort of rectangular shape. Was that also your take on it
If that's the case, something like this product from Screwfix may do the trick - https://www.screwfix.com/p/stormguard-dry-glaze-black-25m/43490
Enough for 10 cars with some to spare.

Cheers Spike

PS Just realised you live in Oslo so the Screwfix link won't apply

Its plenty of screwfix people around here also ;)

What I would like, is to find, is the part number, or the same kind of automotive foam rubber band. The function, I guess, for this type of material, is that it can absorb rainwater for a while, and then get dry again- like a barriere and also work as a preassure seal.
2034 mm could reach from one side of the windshield to the other.Maybe it was installed that way, as a snake biting its tail.
I guess the "sealing strip( self- adhesive) fresh air box" 8Z0 863 435 is what I`m looking for.
Thanks!

Window glazing foam tape should cope very well with hot / cold and wet / dry conditions. The better quality type is closed cell foam so water absorption is minimal.
I like the 'snake' analogy

Cheers Spike

Yes, maybe window foam tape could be even a better choice than the oem Audi snake.
I still have no idea why it is sold and illustrated as a ring, my original seal has 4 ends, as I remember it.
Happy you like analogies.Sometime helpful.

Think Spike nailed it, and you are spot on.
Screwfix Stormguard looks like a durable solution.
It is very versatile, I keep a couple of rolls in stock. Here I have used it to seal a Golf gear stick housing. I glue the ends with Uhu to form a continuous seal.

Here are a few things to think about.
Once you removed the rotten foam under the scuttle tray and cleaned up there is a surprising number of holes. It’s worth checking where they drain to. I lost a selector tower to water dripping into the gearbox. I taped over the holes I didn’t want and positioned the new foam to direct water to a central hole.
Also check the scuttle tray to screen joint. If it is not hard aganst the screen it leaks badly. I ran masking tape across the screen and tray then bedded it into black sillicone. A quick smoothing with a wet finger and pull the tape off and for at least 12 months no water is getting under the tray.

Got the sealstrip from Audi Trad.
2034 mm length, and 10x5 mm. 8Z0863435
€ 6,50
Nitto Eptsealer. EPDM rubber.

The sealstrip 8Z0863435 from Audi Trad.fits under/on the bonnet, its for the fresh air box.
So I am back where I started, and have to go for a screwfix solution, if I can not find the part number for the thicker seal.Approx 30 mm high.

Job done, for the fresh air box, remove the insulation and the box.Reusable clips, 4 torx screws, 5 spreader rivets,- good to have a couple of spare spreader rivets, as they can be brittle.3 pcs.N90927501 and 2 pcs.N1055200.
