Information A2 Pick-up conversion project

The design has been inspired by the original one that Audi did, but this one will have a tailgate, which I don't think the original had. I also want to do something about the poor quality of the internal plastics. Looking at Nextel coating. So want to add some British design and engineering flare to this German classic

& no, not Land Rover, as other guesses?

Interesting project, but i don't really see the link between the two, as are they are both quite different projects.

One link is that Surrey Auto Works have been involved in building both.
Another is that both have had major areas of the car cut away.
Both are a variation on the standard A2 body shape.
But most importantly David was just indicating how interesting it would be to see both cars together (and if the trailer is connected to the pick up, more so?). He never claimed that there is a link.

I apologise to everybody for the delay in posting an update to my A2 Pick-up project. The disappointing news is that its more 'downdate' than an update. Kaz of Surrey Autoworks has tried three different contractors to do some of the detailed ali sheetmetal work, and each one in turn has promised to do the work, only to then delay starting and then eventually letting us down:mad:. We have now reached the point where Kaz is going to attend an ali welding course with a view to trying to do it himself. The only other option seems to be to go to a specialist Aston Martin restorer (because of course Aston's are made of aluminium), but thats BIG bucks. Its amazing to think that this has halted the project since April 2018! Not sure if i ever answered the question re the source of the bulkhead. Its from a Golf Mk1 pick-up:)

What a great project and look forward to seeing the results .... Ali welding skills would be a real bonus too, good luck :)

Did Kaz ever show you this ? a little roof finishing profile I sent to him, reusing the existing D (or is it E) Pillar corner and extending it downwards giving a nice solid looking A to (I guess now) C pillar transfer.

Thanks for keeping us all updated on this great little project !
The execution looks so good and such a unique idea.

You could also look for aircraft sub contractor that was my trade ...looking at what you have left to do you really need to be good with some alloy forming as well as the welding that’s not straight forward ..it’s going to look odd I’d if everything rear of cab is flat and tacked on you have to incoperate some fluid compound curves to make it look like it was factory made ...you have to heat treat alloy and work it over formers in a short time as the working time is ltd we used to heat treat the alloy put in big freezers -40 take out and work it if you can’t Finnish profile it goes back through same process several times ..it’s a dying art now with the rise of composites (carbon fibre) ..some car body shops have a talented sheet metal guy but working with steel is miles apart from alloy ..if you watch a good sheet metal guy working freehand over a sand bag it’s ..alchemy ..wish you lots of luck it could be a great project but all the hard work is left to do to,pull this off well .love to see this done ..P
