A2 probably written off!

This afternoon an older lady turned right in front of my wife driving her A2. Luckily the airbag didnt go off but front end is all pushed and radiator is touching engine.
It was an older X reg 1.4 but it had all the documentation and a verified 41K miles!
Its certainly going to be written off by the insurance company as not worth repairing so the argument is going to be on the value. Mechanically its fine and was about to sort minor bodywork issues and give inside a deep clean. What value does the low mileage add as that was attraction of buying this car?

I wont have time or space to repair it if that is offered and need another car ASAP. My wife loved her A2 so wants another so anyone selling one? Obviously would prefer low mileage or at least service paperwork and a 1.4 petrol as mainly around town short journeys. We are in Cardiff

Sorry to here about this but hope your wife is OK. I think given it's age I would say you are looking at maybe £500 with an insurance company. Always try haggling for more quoting the very low mileage and documentation.

If you haven't joined the market place then pay £2 and you can see cars for sale. On Tuesday a member @tuizner advertised one:

Pine Green 2000 AUA with rear electric windows - £900

You may not see the link until you pay the £2. He is in the Isle of Wight but the advert has 2 pdfs with loads of photos and lots of info on service history and things he has done. 101k miles - you will find getting anything near your 41k very difficult.

Alternatively, if you can wait, from time to time, @A2Steve in Aberdare rescues A2s and does a great job bringing them back to life and then sales them at a very reasonable cost.

Hope you find an A2 soon, especially as your wife liked hers so much.

Edit: I'm sure the seller would gladly pick you up from the Cowes ferry terminal. You can get a train from Cardiff directly to Southampton and there is still probably a bus connecting the station to the ferry terminal. His A2 has a beige interior which looks very tidy and clean. Not many people like that colour and prefer black, but I wish I had that interior instead of my black which I find shows all the marks and specs of dirt. The headlining needs recovering but you can follow my guide to remove and prepare it (not difficult) and then get it recovered for about £250 (and the car is driveable while it's being done).

If you got the space, tools, time and skills you could repair it. Does it still run? You could buy it back from the insurance company for a few hundred but it would be a category D?

@mrbroons did a front end repair to his A2 including removing the front end and engine and replacing the chassis legs that the engine is supported on. He has many YT video showing the repair.

Oh no Peter! That’s really bad luck. I was going to ask you about this last weekend but didn’t get a chance!
It’s actually very easy to replace the whole front section from a breaker, it’s just a load of screws, plastic and the crash bar..
Apart from the air con condenser having to be gassed, it’s literally a 1 day job to swap over…….I did it on Marks car after he crashed his 2 years ago☹️

Looks to be cobalt blue. I’ve got a front panel and a front bumper here in Aberdare if you decided to repair it.
Thanks Steve, I'll bear that in mind and see what happens with insurance. Even If I do buy back It will take me time to repair so will have to buy another A2 for the interim

Thanks, I didnt know about the Market Place. where do you join and pay?

Click on your Account, where your Avatar is, and in the drop down, look for Upgrades. Click on that, to pay the princely sum of £2 😯 by PayPal, to give you access to the wonderful world of the A2 Market Place.

I would indeed be happy to - but this morning a caravan decided to side swipe my parked pine green !!!

So that is also now a write off for insurance purposes - grrr.

After a closer look and support here I'm feeling a little more optimistic that I can repair the car. The aluminium crash beam is well and truly bent but as it was hit right in its middle hopefully the chassis legs are still straight. I'm also amazed the radiator didnt split as is also bent.

A little premature but thinking about a list of parts I'm likely to need:
The aluminium crash beam
Complete front bumper and the lower grill (fog light surrounds just popped out and seem ok)
Radiator
A/C radiator
The plastic slot thing the bonnet slides into up by windscreen as one side cracked
Maybe a head light as moved so may be broken fixings?
Bonnet and grill flap seem to be OK but no doubt there will be various plastic brackets etc that I can see that may be broken

Probably need new hose or two, maybe fan and cowling for rad, new ambient temp sensor and bracket, maybe new aircon pressure sensor. Service flap looks shot to me the lower plastics buckled they are thin.
Hopefully that's it, maybe rad top hose or lower hose plastic union push fits?
I saw full front slam panel and rad pack for £99 recently.
If you need a bonnet I have one free here.

I have everything there bar the headlight

++ save it 😀
I'd suggest getting the correct colour/original paint body parts if you can. That would hopefully make it cheaper to repair since painting can be expensive and unless done properly be an obvious repair.

Thanks everyone for offers of parts and advice. The other parties insurance company was very quick to contact us and I have explained I want to keep the car. I have to send 4 photos, two sides and front and back so they can value car as not in their guide as too old. At same time I will give all the other plus points of mileage and paperwork etc and values for similar low mileage A2's from Autotrader and Gumtree. It will be interesting what first offer will be.

Once photos sent I hopefully can start taking front end apart and see exactly what parts I need after checking thats OK with insurance company
