A2 spec manufacture codes | How to decode | useful links

I struggle to find a way to verify the correct equipment code for the Electric Additional Heater that was an option to 2004 and 2005 diesels.
It is possible that it was an option for petrol car too, though never seen one my selves.

When I call people wrt if the car they are selling, have the Electric Additional Heater, none have the slightest idea...
If I could get the correct code, it would save me from a 3-8 hour drive to check my selves.

For those wondering if the Webasto is not an option? For me; no. A new Webasto unit cost me £1200 ish. I have had four cars with Webasto, all of them long-runners, the Webasto is not alive in any of them...

Mrs dieselfan has an 2004 BHC with the beloved "Electric Additional Heater" and we are very impressed with all aspects, it clear the windows inside and outside fast, both inside and outside even in really low temperatures, no Webasto exhaust into the cockpit when starting the car after a heavy snowfall either....

What is the difference between 7E4 and 7EB and the same for 7E6 and 7E7 ?

t Vehicles with a 1.2 l TDI engine (except for 3 L Öko for Germany with exhaust emissions standard “D 4”) are currently fitted with an electric additional heater rated at approx. 900 watt capacity. Production changeover to the electric additional heater rated at 1500 Watt capacity will not apply to the 2003 models of these vehicles. t On vehicles without an air conditioner (only with a heater) the Econ button was discontinued from 2003 (implementation of the 1500 Watt additional heater, fuel-powered additional heater is no longer used on all vehicles). On these vehicles the electric additional heater can no longer be switched off by the driver.
t Theoperating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- / heater control electronics actuates the engine control unit, which then decides whether the additional heating is to be switched on. Depending on the engine control unit version, different measured value blocks of the engine control unit indicate why the additional heater is not switched on or that it is being actuated. → Relevant Workshop Manual, Diesel Direct Injection and Glow Plug System; Repair group 01
t The engine control unit receives an additional heating request:
t On vehicles with an air conditioner via the data bus system (convenience data bus and drive data bus)
t On vehicles with heater via wiring from the heater control electronics to the engine control unit (the input in the heater control electronics is switched to earth). t The engine control unit switches on the additional heater if e.g. the following preconditions are met:
t The operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- transmits a request via the convenience data bus, or the heater control electronics have switched the input to earth (the Econ button is not pressed, the ambient temperature is below 6 °C).
t Engine speed greater than 600 rpm
t The coolant temperature is less than 70 °C (or less than 80 °C at very low ambient temperatures).

I think it is complete, but you never know there is a chance there could be some more especially non UK or special variations for extreme temperatures.

@audifan , I do not think I have the full answer, yet, since I have no idea what the difference between 7E6 and 7E7 is ?

The largest code list I have seen is 14288 codes!


Not sure how accurate these code definitions are. In particular look at code M5S to the right of 55W on dieselfan's sticker picture!

140A alternator 1500W heater. Norway I believe received the 1500W heater late 2002 on all the 1.4 diesels so all BHC were fitted with the 1500W heater as standard.
 
@Andrew, yes there are larger lists out there but they included just about every code for every vehicle and are difficult to separate into applicable models then to variants.

Those codes cover VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda and probably more from the group and are very difficult to split into brand then model. Also a possibility that codes can get reused after a model has been out of production for a while. After all there is a finite number of three letter/number permutations.
 
Good, then we have approx 220 codes relevant to A2.

@audifan is this a list you have extracted from the 14288 codes list ? thats one amazing job ?

Alas I can not take all the credit. It has been amassed from various German sites a while back and although used Google translate stiill think something has been lost in translation.

It also includes ONLY the positive options not the NO options e.g. 7EO no additional heater.
 
My 1.2 has 7E6 (900W) and 8GU (140A), but this combination might be 1.2 specific (for stop-start).
7E6 not listed on sticker, came from friend who printed full option list from Partslink.
