Are there any A2 specialists / recommended repairers in North Lancashire / South Cumbria areas please ?

Tried to contact Timmus this week but without success.

Regards,

Steve

Tom doesn't really do mechanical repair. Whilst he does hold mechanical skills, he specialises in the electrical side of the A2.

WOM Automotive is the one most in your area recommend, if I were closer I'd definitely give them a try.
@timmus seems to be hard to get hold of this week but as said he's the electrical guru and also very much in demand.

Hi guys,

If I could clone myself, I would. Tom 1 could be tasked with replying to messages, and Tom 2 could do all the work on the A2s. However, I am my own secretary. I cannot be replying to messages whilst I’m working on a car. I simply have to prioritise the job for the club member who is stood on my driveway, as arranged.
I try very hard to reply promptly to private message whilst also keeping up with all the happenings on the forum that are relevant to me. However, when life gets busy, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day if I’m also to have a life outside of A2 World.
I love what I do and am happy to assist anyone. All I ask in return is patience. Nobody is ever ignored.

I shall endeavour to reply to the most urgent outstanding messages this evening, once it’s either too dark or too wet to keep working on the cars.

Cheers,

Tom

Apologies Tom, I didn't wish to cause you added stress, I realise you are extremely busy. Please accept my apology and I will await your response when you get a minute.

Other than the body shell, an A2 is very similar to other VAG cars of a similar vintage. A professional VAG Indie, (with appropriate diagnostic kit, online access to parts lists, workshop manuals, schematics etc), will be able to cope with your A2. This level of professionalism will not come cheap. My local indie is less expensive than an Audi dealer, but a tad above the less salubrious "bodge it" brigade. You don't have to, and many of us don't want to, travel halfway across the country to get our car serviced or repaired.
Try a search on Google Maps "VAG Service near me"
Read the reviews, you may well find a good'un closer than you thought.
Mac.

Hi Steve, what do you need doing? I to would whole heartedly recommend WOM, but depending on what needs doing I do know of a good garage in Kirby Lonsdale that does all things German.

We took the A2 down to WOM for a New Clutch in 2020.

They are great but about 2 hours drive each way, I think.

While they’re not A2 specialists, I hold Noble’s Garage in Langwathby in very high regard. Marcus is a car nut (currently building a Metro 6R4) and they always address the core problem rather than mitigating the symptoms. VERY reasonable rates. Langwathby may not count as South Cumbria, though. They get my vote.

Thank you Merlin3046. Think you recommended Nobles Garage Langwathby to me some time ago. I had forgotten about it. I was thinking of having a “ jolly “ up that way sometime soon. Have to go to Carlisle next Tuesday/ Wednesday so could have a look at Nobles then.

Regards,

Steve

I asked before when you recommended Nobles Garage Langwathby, why you went there when you appear to be in Suffolk ? Can’t remember what you said.

Sorry. Had not seen your reply until tonight. Which Garage In Kirkby Lonsdale please ? Google Search found Micks Garage. Is that the one ?

Contacted Timmus eventually and went down to see him yesterday for the Scan.

Yes it's Micks garage, basically a Mercedes specialist but seemed very helpful and knowledgeable when I took one of my A2's there for some work. I used it as it was handy for my work and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
I think he has a courtesy car available too.

Will give Micks Garage a try for the A2 then.

Looks like it might be in the Unit where Status VW ( Barclay J Stainton ) used to be until they moved South ? Taking our A6 up to Harpers Cumbria in Carlisle on Tuesday afternoon for its 2nd MOT Test and possibly other jobs. Kirkby Lonsdale would be a lot handier !

Roger Irrelevant but I went to QES there when it used to be a Grammar School, as did my Late Brother and Late Sister. I was there from 1967 to 1974. Our Son & Daughter also went there.

Nobles Garage at Langwathby have quoted £85 + VAT to fit the good Used Genuine Audi Manifold Cat. I bought from Paul ( Depronman ) provided it is a straight swap with no broken bolts etc. Does that sound OK ?

Have spoken to Micks Garage at Kirkby Lonsdale. They are going to get back to me with their price.

Taking the A6 up to Harpers Cumbria in Carlisle tomorrow for its 2nd MOT Test, fix / replace the Indicator Lamp in the Drivers Door Mirror and new Rear Brake Pads possibly. Might have tried Micks Garage for that but they were not known to me until this weekend. Harpers we know well.

Micks Garage quoted £112 + VAT. to fit the good used Genuine Audi Manifold Cat. I bought from Paul (Depronman). It’s Booked in for 27th August. They will check Emissions afterwards then carry out MOT Test if it Passes Emissions Test. They might find something else of course but they only charge £40 for MOT Test!

Called in by Langwathby to look at Nobles Garage yesterday evening on the way back from dropping the A6 off at Harpers Cumbria in Carlisle. Looks fine, and Langwathby is a nice place but it’s a lot further away from us than Kirkby Lonsdale.

Micks Garage have fitted the good used Genuine Audi Manifold Cat. I bought from Paul ( Depronman). They confirm it is a good Cat. but the A2 will still not pass the Emissions Test as it is “ Over Fuelling “. They will try to Diagnose later this afternoon. Any suggestions please ?

Any component of the engine management system failing could be causing the car to over fuel. A faulty MAF sensor could be giving an incorrect air reading and therefore causing it to increase fuel to match air which isn't there. Could also be the lambda sensors throwing the air/fuel ratio out. Are there no fault codes logged?
