A2 stolen

Largely as a result of my own carelessness my 2002/03 tdi 75 was stolen about a month ago, from a rural area in Devon. The police have not been able to find it, despite a subsequent ANPR sighting in Plymouth. My insurance company believes it has probably gone to a 'chop shop' and I'm posting this in the faint hope that a member might be offered something off it or might otherwise stumble across it.

The car is plain black, with OSS, seven spoke 15" wheels and standard cloth upholstery. It has a fairly noticeable dent above the fuel cap. It had a red high visibility strip across the rear bumper and the registration number was AG02 OUU, but both have now no doubt been changed or removed. It also had a fairly prominent shelf for dogs in the back, home made from wood and aluminium.

Best wishes to everybody on this excellent forum.

Hello and sorry to hear of your misfortune. I presume the theft was down to keys left in the car, defrosting or warming up or that sort of thing?

My neighbour had her Fiat 500 stolen at the start of the year by an opportunist whilst she was defrosting it - never got it back.

If any A2OC member is tempted to do this, please take the precaution to lock the car with a key blade in the driver's door lock - it'll lock the car centrally and stop opportunist thefts. If you don't have a second key, then I'd urge you to get at least a spare blade cut, which can be done at pretty much any shoe-bar or lock shop. You don't need a full fob - just a blade which you can drill and pop onto your house keys (which of course you keep separate from your car keys don't you??!!).

With winter coming on, let's make it harder to steal our A2s and get them locked.

Worse than that, I'm afraid, Skipton01. I drove home after a wet day on Dartmoor and put the car in the locked barn which serves as my garage. Wanting the inside of the car to dry out I left it with all the windows open and, unnecessarily, the key in the ignition. The barn door was forced open during the night. My insurance company has given me a good ticking off. I've now replaced the car with a BHC tdi 75, registration NU05 YZC, which sports a huge A2OC badge and I think is known to more than one club member.

Ha! You’ve bought my car (Audrey)’s sister, from when @YorkshireHill owned them both and mine was known as Merlin.

Your car has the platinum heated leather SE seats that Dave @Special edition originally installed in Merlin, whereas I still have your original heated sport spec swing grey leather seats - Fancy swapping back?!
