A2 TDi 75 160k miles, smokey on cold start. Is it normal?

Depends how long you intend keeping the car, it will benefit anyway even if it doesnt need it by means of blowing up. PLus the engin would be worth something later on to sell if it was done right. Or you could grab a dead one and breathe new life into it. Be nice to work on an engine in the garage, a dream for me as Ive seen @greywolfhound 's garage and thats the goal! Lucky man! :)
I tend to keep cars until they start to rust. I sell them before they need welding. Or if they are a classic I keep them, I have classic mini that I'm not progressing at the moment.
So it looks like I have the A2 until somebody drives into it or I'm told I can no longer drive a diesel. I'm currently economically inactive and if that doesn't change then the car would probably out last me as it is. However if I get into commuting again then I will need confidence in the engine. Remember I didn't replace the cam shells, didn't want to throw good money after bad.

Thankyou edd .. it’s rather full up now with three motorbikes and possibly another project on its way. 🙄

Test start this morning after parked for a few days. It started well, there was a little smoke. By the time I got the back end after starting I caught sight of the last waft of smoke.
That’s it for this engine with the bore damage. Ill se if I can make its replacement smoke free.
