Was thinking that...its not actually my car its my friends...she hasn't had the greatest luck in the last 18 months...if it was ok it would be the first luck she'd had in a long while 🥺

Suppose it depends how many teeth the belt has jumped i once bought a 1.9 pd galaxy and that was about 3 teeth out but still ran pretty well was quite surprised when i was replacing the belt as matter of course having just bought it

Was told it had had the cambelt done just before she bought it 2yrs ago...she had a local garage do a 'full check' of it with a fine tooth comb...she spent £700 getting the work done they said was needed...2 months later it failed the MOT on pretty much everything they were meant to have replaced...so had to pay to get all the work done at a reputable garage...she's had a run of bad luck...so think she's pretty much done with the A2 😔

The only thing I hate more than cowboy garages is ones that are full of 💩
Unfortunately I think the Green Flag idiot probably killed it continuing to crank.I suspect just a few were missing initially then the continued cranking causing probable internal damage and stripped off more teeth as the pistons met the resistance of valves. If a 2 year old belt you may be LUCKY with a warranty claim but would need proof. Can you try to claim anything from Green Flag for their incompetent "mechanic"
Half of me says to put a new belt on and try after checking for injector damage, but the other half says you need to see what the valves and pistons look like first. Looking inside the engine while built up is nearly impossible. I did have access to very thin flexible borescopes but no longer.

Yet another sad tale of garages that cant be bothered to work on A2's little engine properly, the A2 forum should open its own garage!

Just thought I’d check the original post. There was a loss of power? It didn’t go bang? Then it cranked but wouldn’t start?
Doesn’t feel totalled to me but there is a need for some serious investigation to determine the state of the engine.

The TDI 90 I bought had the same incident halduck A2OC member bought it the belt was changed but not the tensioner, and that went bang. It was rebuilt with a refurbished head and is now running great, I suppose all down to cost

Where is the vehicle, can you supply a postcode? it’s possible I could call by with a test meter to look at the codes.
Did the engine simply cut out or was there misfiring or mechanical noise? Did you stop, turn the engine off and then it wouldn’t start up?

The vehicle is in now back in Devon...Gary and John From B&F read the codes and then from the codes worked out the timing belt had gone...which has loads of stripped teeth....no noise when it went...just loss of power on the motorway and then refused to start....Green flag driver then cranked and cranked and sprayed easy start in it until he flattened the battery...tried to run on easy start apparently 🤷
