A2 Tdi Project Hi-Ho

Welcome. I drove past your bit earlier. I’m back in Glasgow now tho.

There is a good thread about the creation of the remap by Paul - it’s a really reassuring read. I’m the biggest fierty about messing with my car but the only bad thing about remapping mine was that it did somewhat highlight that my already badly ill clutch was on its very last legs - too much torque.

There is a planned Scottish meet next May up in the northwest - you can see the thread on here - but we maybe need something Scottish a bit sooner.

If you need parts or upgrades it’s good to put a request on here. Often eBay prices are a bit higher than ideal. Also some really well stocked sheds amongst the members and some ‘leet technical skills for fixing things up too.

As I said, welcome.

Yes Paul I'm fully convinced now I was just a bit wary for a start, as I said before it sounded too good to be true. I will probably go for the replacement mapped ECU as I use the car to commute to work every day and I live up in Fife Scotland so nipping round to yours to get it installed just isn't an option.
Do you have them sitting ready to be posted out and is it just plug and play removing/installing them?

Thanks Iain

Hi Yes I noticed there wasn't much on in the way of events up this way, is it an Audi meet or just an A2? Yes I've been convinced about Pauls remap and will definitely be getting one. I'm still getting used to the site but so far it seems the bees knees

It’s an A2OC meet but other vehicles would be welcome in sure (since I’ll likely be in a campervan ). Murdo is organising it and has a Whatsapp group if you like the look of the trip on the thread here. Accommodation is looking a bit full tho.

We had a mini Scottish meet a couple of years ago at the transport museum. I left with all the help a man could need, a handful of wiring looms, a spare programmed key and a nice ‘beep’ when I locked the car. As well as a very happy memory -shame I missed the evening. I think another would be a grand idea - Cammy has suggested his massive garage as a good meeting place too. . I’m just mince at organising things I’m afraid.

The drive to Paul’s (and Tom’s) is very doable. I did it from East Glasgow last month and it’s only three hours. I bottled the DIY remap and wanted advice on some few things (sorry Paul).

I’m a Fifer too incidentally - grew up in Glenrothes.

I currently have three ecu’s in stock covering all of the A2 tdi engines
They are all remapped with the immobiliser turned off so they will work in any A2
The ecu is plug and play and is located under the passenger feet in the secret compartment
Lift the carpet and turn the three black catches so they align with the edge and the cover can be lifted away. Under there you will first see the cccu under this is the ecu which is an aluminium box about the same size as a vhs cassette there are two looms attached ease connector as a latch at the end which is pulled outwards to un mate the connector. There is a latch at the front. Push it down. To release the ecu then pull it towards the passenger door to get it clear of the mounting frame
I need to know your engine type. Amf bhc or aml
The remapping process will set some fault codes which will need to be cleared with an ODB scanner
Cheers. Paul

I'd be up for the meet that's for sure,I'll need to look into it a bit more. As for driving to Paul's I think I'd rather just pay the extra postage lol

I'm not originally from Fife I moved down here from Banchory up Aberdeen way about 6-7 years ago

That all sounds straight forward enough, I've got a VagCom for the Scirocco so clearing the codes won't be a problem. I'll look out the engine code and get back to you to arrange things. Thanks again

I was going to note engine codes though I've confused myself so will leave it until I've checked. :)

Jeremy will probably be along soon for pics of that. His favourite car.

ECU's are here and waiting when you are ready
As a bonus I will also get the SKC from your own ECU which is always handy to have should the ECU or instrument cluster ever fail or you need additional keys coded to the car

That's the Scirocco it's a 2.0Tdi mapped to around 200bhp with large turbo, full stainless system, Eibach lowering springs, gloss back wrapped roof and black chrome turbine alloys

I'll probably have a look when I get home from work tomorrow and let you know. That's handy cuz now you mention it some of the pixels on the instrument cluster are burnt out

To be clear, whilst this is nice enough and a car to be proud of, my penchant for Sciroccos stops before any electronics were introduced, even the fuel injection is mechanical on the Mk2 :)

This is my first A2 despite having a love for them for many years. I've owned it's big brothers in A8/S8's but due to modern running costs the A2 Tdi is much more appealing. I recently bought it and although I like the look of the cars I wanted to loose the slight granny look of the car but try to keep the original Audi styling using subtle changes.

The first photo is of the 18" R32 alloys with 215/35 18 tyres that I fully refurbed, bought brand new tyres at great expense without fully knowing whether they would fit or not but thankfully they fitted perfectly without any modifications. I personally think they look really nice and transform the look of the car. I was worried the big wheels would ruin the drive of the car but in actual fact the car drives better although the MPG has gone down so the speedometer is probably out as well, I will need to check using GPS.

The second photo is of the Audi side stripes I fitted yesterday,. To be honest I'm not sure if I'm 100% happy with them, I might add a red pin stripe so they're not just plain black or possibly red and yellow to represent the German flag just so I don't look like Ebay's best customer lol I'm also planning on adding S badges to the front grill and tailgate so that would tie in with the red pin stripes.

The third photo is of the car when I bought it. It's in good condition for the year with only a few very light scratches to the bodywork mainly on the rear arches which will all be easy to repair, I'm not sure if it's down to the aluminium body but there's absolutely no dents to the body not even car park dents which is a surprise considering the age of the car. It drives really well with no knocks or bangs , everything feels tight despite it having covered 134k luckily it has good service history to back this up. All in all I was really pleased with my purchase.

I also have a mk1 TT 3 spoke steering wheel with the S badge on it's way which I'll add a photo of once fitted but if anyone has any other tasteful mods that can be done please let me know as I'm running out of ideas fast.
Welcome :) Beautiful example! Love the choice of wheels, very nice!

Yes it's got the sunroof but it doesn't open, you can hear the motor working but it's as if the teeth are worn or jumping and I believe it's an absolute nightmare to fix. It doesn't leak so I think I'll leave well alone
When you’re ready to fix it @ICowie , @Kleynie is the master when it comes to OSS refits/ refurbs.

Sorry bud. I didn’t know it would be the modern release. It is still pretty and I really wanted one when they first launched but too few seats.

No apology needed, and no offence taken. The newer Sciroccos are great cars, and we have them to thank for increased interest (and values) on the older ones. But I decided long ago that the new ones weren't for me (I took the Audi A5 route instead :) )

Presumably an ODB scanner/setter is needed to reset the immobiliser. My insurance has a condition that the immobiliser/alarm must be fitted and working.
