In this weeks Auto Express magazine they published their findings from two surveys they did in Dec 2001 and Jan 2002 asking drivers and owners everything about their cars. This included build, performance, ride, handling, comfort, braking, gearbox, practicality, steering and reliability - each scoring 10 out of total 100. In this issue they publish the top 100 cars for the above.

And where is the A2 in this list? Number 8! The A-class is 73 and the Golf 60...

The top 10 overall are:

1 Porsche Boxster 89.60%
2 BMW 5 series 88.92%
3 Skoda Fabia 88.52%
4 Toyota Yaris 88.51%
5 Lexus IS200 88.35%
6 Rover 75 88.21%
7 Mercedes E class 87.86%
8 Audi A2 87.061%
9 Skoda Octavia 87.36%
10 Toyota Celica 87.06%
60 VW Golf 80.93%
73 Merc A-class 78.96%
100 Peugeot 106 71.90%

Interestingly enough the one thing that all test say the A2 is bad in - and I have admitted it as well - is ride. It rides too hard and you have to go very slow over speed bumps. BUT it also scores VERY high under handling - because of the hard supension. A true sports car handling compromise if I ever saw one.
