A2OC Members Location Map.

Morning Mac,

You shouldn’t need a ‘how to’ Mac. Just click on your account details and add you local town or postcode to the location field.

Kind regards,

Tom

Cheers.
Done that. In format town, county, post code. Is this correct?
How long for map to update?
Mac.

I'm not able to see any members at all in Norwich, let alone Coalville.

It can't work on town name, as there are many with the same name. Postcode is unique of course.
It depends on the format of the "Location" field, that's why I queried the format. I have entered town, county, postcode, but, maybe it only reads the first entry. I'll edit mine to postcode only, and see what happens.

As far as I know, there has never been a connection between a member's stated location on their profile (for instance, mine is Lancaster) and the membership map. When the forum was based on the vBulletin platform, you had to add your location to the map as a separate action. Some users chose to do so, while others chose not to. I'm happy for everyone to know that I'm based in the Lancaster area, but I'd rather my exact address wasn't advertised to the whole world.
I wondered whether the ability to add your location to the map had been lost when A2OC was migrated from vBulletin to the XenForo platform. However, I notice that @dj_efk is correctly shown on the map as being located in Singapore, and he's joined the club since the migration to XenForo. So, it must be possible ...but I cannot see how it's done.

Cheers,

Tom

I have a memory map location is based on a member's IP address. I will see if I can find the source of this memory.

I'm not that fussed to be honest. I'd long since written off the members map as a feature that didn't work.
Sorry @steve_c , I'd typo'd you with @2work . I've edited it since.
It was a comment, be-moaning the fact that members didn't put their location on the map, that stung me into (now frustrated) action!

Found it... Start at the third post.

I also had this thought, which would explain why @dj_efk appears to be in Singapore. Of course, a vast majority of domestic internet connections in the UK use dynamic IP addresses, meaning the location will be a bit vague.

Out of interest reverting to Mac's concern about the avatar location, I found by accident, even though it does not appear to be a link, the last part is. Puts you in Googlemap if you click on it to show a member's location, try it!

People also use vpn's so location may not even be their own country!!!! Personally think the map could be gracefully retired as it serves no purpose and the location inaccuracies are huge. For example Merthyr Tydfil shows as Caerphilly, Cardiff as Pontypridd.. So please Admins give the map the same treatment as Profile posting recently had. Thank you.
