A2OC registration upgrade changes

Hello,

The club has been trialling a new membership process since the New Year to coincide with the relaunch of the site. During this time, new members joining the club had to pay a nominal fee to gain access to all the forums and have the ability to post. In return for this fee, we sent new members a complimentary sticker set.

Having reviewed the results of these changes over the last few weeks, we're relaxing our membership rules as follows:
  • Unregistered and newly registered users will get read-only access to all forums, except the Marketplace
  • Users who wish to upgrade their accounts to full membership will pay £2 and get full write access to all forums, including the Marketplace. Full membership also provides access to the Messages system and to user profiles.
  • We will no longer be sending out complimentary window stickers
  • Members who wish to purchase window stickers can continue to do so in our Merchandise Shop
There are two reasons for these adjustments:
  • The club was making a loss on all new overseas user upgrades (as it was costing us more than £2.50 per transaction). So, rather than having to have two tiers of membership, we've agreed not to send complimentary windows stickers to any new members. We're also reducing the one-off membership fee to £2 as a result.
  • The club's Google search visibility was being constrained, as Google can only index publicly accessible content.
We hope you understand these changes, which we plan to roll out on Friday 23 February. And new members upgrading before this date will get the complimentary Window Sticker set.

Thank you for your continued support.

I'm delighted to read this. Thank you very much to all those who contributed to this decision. I feel that the quality and breadth of information available on A2OC is the club's single biggest advertisement. Keeping it visible to all, and 'findable' through Google, is both beneficial for the club and for all A2 owners, whether club members or not.

Cheers,

Tom
