A4 B6 headrests in an A2, do they fit?

I seem to remember a thread about this recently but couldn't find it.
Has anyone tried A4 B6 headrests in an A2?
I think the A2 headrest isn't the comfiest so wondered about a swap.

Many thanks

David

I too find the headrests uncomfortable - actually my front seats in general aren’t that comfortable to be honest (non lumbar leather sports) - as they push your shoulders A little far forward relative to the base of your neck I find.

I can alleviate this by reclining the seat, but then as the headrests are so far back as to be useless in anything other than a rear end collision (even then I’m dubious - Erling worth your recent stiff neck you may have a comment) - this means my neck quickly starts to ache as there’s nothing to rest my head on - @2work can the headrests be swapped for more comfy ones from elsewhere in the range do you know?

I can’t say I can remember if clonked my head on the headrest I’m afraid. All happened pretty quick. Personally I find a2 sports seats really comfortable, the most comfortable being cloth ones tbh!

Pretty sure @2work was running some

Evening Erling and David,

Apologies, missed this tag earlier. Yes other much more comfortable headrests fit into the tops of the A2s front seats. I’ll get pictures of what’s fitted in Project 250 in the morning. More to follow.

Kind regards,

Tom

Technically they are head restraints in the A2. They are also hollow to make them lighter and easier to see through the rear ones either from the rear view mirror or when parking etc.

Their purpose is to reduce whiplash rather than be used as rests.

What I need are rests so interested to see what Tom’s running.

Morning David,

Apologies for not taking any pictures this morning, totally forgot when preparing to leave for work. I'll come back to you this evening with pictures and the part number of what's fitted. It is no doubt what you're after as it has full tilt and slide forward/backward functionality, exactly the same as I have on my S-Line seats in the A6 C7.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Apologies for the late response as been home for a good 90 minutes now.

I’ve just removed one of the headrests from Project 250 and unfortunately cannot see a part number on them at all. I cannot therefore confirm which Audi they were originally from.

I was also wrong about the slide forward and backward, getting confused between the headrests in question and the set in the A6 C7. If I get time later on I’ll remove a headrest from tbe A6 C7 to see if they have the same width chrome spigots that enter the seat.

Here’s the headrest that I’ve just taken from Project 250.

Like them or not, I must say that they offer a notable difference in comfort than the factory head restraints.

Sorry I’m unable to offer a part number or confirm which Audi they originated from.

Kind regards,

Tom

Ok Tom I think you’ve started something here - not sure why this topic / upgrade has never come up before as to my mind (and neck) this is a near-essential one!!

Time for some eBay hunting for swing grey A3/4/5/6/8 leather headrests!

Morning David,

Happy to have been able to assist Sir. Whilst I agree with your thoughts, this topic has possibly not come up before as the purists out there would see it as a downgrade or going against the lightweight considerations behind the model.

Don't go purchasing anything just yet as I'll see if I have time to swing by the breakers local to work later on to see what other headrests might fit. I recall them having a various A4s and A6s along with some Golfs and Passat's, something will fir for sure.

Give me a few hours and I'll come back to this thread with some picture; apologies for not coming back to you all last night regards the A6 C7 headrest last night, run out of time.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon David,

Unable to swing by the local breakers near work as had to quickly dash home.

What I can confirm for you though is that the A6 C7 headrest chrome ‘legs’, whilst having the exact same parallel separation than the A2s ‘legs’, the C7s are just too thick in diameter to drop into the A2 seat backs apertures. Such a shame as they have the slide forward/backward as well as the full tilt movement, really comfortable.

I’ll see if I can get to the breakers yard for you one lunchtime this week Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Would have suggested that you obtained the mounting guides along with the head restraints although they are a pain to remove.

Yes the forward / backward adjustment would be perfect.

Good advice for anyone looking to do this, although I was not happy to remove the guide tubes on this occasion as it was in my own A6 C7 I was tinkering with.

I’m sure earlier models will have the narrower legs but confirmation is yet to acquired. Fingers crossed I get to the breakers yard one lunchtime this week.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom was suggesting that when getting head restraints / rests from a breaker that you also have the guide tubes. Not to cannibalise your car!

Thanks Tom, I had already placed an order thanks to my impatience. I hadn't thought to consider the diameter of the legs so I'm hopeful with the ones I ordered being around the same vintage as an A2 they will fit. They of course don't have the adjustment fore n aft which would be next level comfort

Hopefully they arrive before the weekend and if they fit the next conundrum will be trying to match the colours...

Many thanks

Evening David,

I can highly recommend Furniture Clinic products, they also offer a colour matching service, just need to send them a correctly coloured item and let them do their magic.

As I’m still intending to drop into the local breakers yard I can look to see what colours they might have. Confirm what colour/material you’re hoping for.

Kind regards,

Tom
