ABS G201 fault

Howdy folks

Got an occasional fault that has popped up twice in a week resetting upon cycling the ignition

01435 brake pressure sensor 1 (G201)

Reading threads would appear this sensor can be on the master cylinder on earlier cars and in the abs module on later cars

Looking at mine, i have one sensor on my master cylinder, is this the likely culprit and does anyone know best place to get one either new or second hand and whats involved in changing it, does it need a full brake bleed??

Many thanks for any input!
Cheers

Hi @Howey

Did you sort his?

I have the same (or similar) problem, fault on G201 sensor. The workshop manuals seem to say that there should be two sensors on the master cylinder and I'm trying to make sure which one G201 is. I haven't taken a close enough look at my own cylinder to see if it has two sensors or just the one as you said yours seems to have...

Cheers

Hi

Not fixed mine as it only faults every so often, mine has only one and my fault code reader shows it to be the later 60 unit which i believe this fault would be the abs unit. Waiting for it to be a more permanant fault them going to try adding a additional earth to the wiring just incase its an earthing fault, how often does yours occur?

I see. I've got the same main code (01435) followed by "008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent"

And it is just that, Intermittent. It's hard to say how often exactly I don't drive allot as it's my first car and I'm currently still learning actually. Most of my drives will be around 30mins or so, sometimes it will show up on the dash as the three brake warning lights (often later in the drive) but out of the last 3 or 4 drives, it only came once.

I suppose I should send back the sensor I bought, as I didn't realise I probably have the same type as you that's located in the ABS (MK60) unit with only one connection on the master cylinder.

Annoying that none of the workshop manuals I could find online mention this...

I'm wondering what to do now since I think the brake fluid needs changing anyway (looks a bit dark). So should I change it and continue using the car as is, see how it goes or should I see about fixing the sensor/replacing the ABS unit first?

You could try a second hand abs module or bbm do one on ebay which states that the electric side is unusual to fail just mechanical so this would mean you could replace mechanical and reuse your electric part avoiding the need for coding (i dont know whats involved with coding or what that single sensor on the master does so please confirm with more knowledge able folk than me) this would be a two birds in one stone but if you have drum brakes may require brake cylinders which is never a bad thing to change anyway and i would also change your front brake flexis as these split which is hard to spot!

Sorry its BBA ebay no.

May be better to message them direct outside of ebay as they have been going for years and repair a variety of stuff

Ah thanks for that.

I'm wondering now if that one sensor on the cylinder is actually G201...

Just posted about it here:

Interesting!
Got same code on 52reg tdi75; 01435- Brake pressure sensor 1 (G201). 008 - implausible signal - intermittent. Now i reckon there are three tyres of BMCs? with one sensor, two and none (my 54 reg tdi90). so the one i am working on is with one sensor on it and VCDS lite says its MK60 system. now as per 7Zap, it should be 1J0907597A. it seems like it has been replaced before coz its not VW part.
FYI: ESP and ABS lights are constantly on. Brake warning light comes up with a beep and flashes if I rev the car above 4k stationary or soon as I change to 2nd gear while driving. it could really be this pressure sender but since i have tested the servo and its not holding vacuum, I suspect the sender could be good and reading pressure fluctuations?
