ABS Pump ist kaput?

So following on from this thread we dropped our A2 to the garage for diagnosis.

The report was not great. The codes generated from the scan indicate that it's the ABS pump that's playing up, not the sensors.

So A2 Hivemind, what do I do now? How straightforward (or not) is replacing the ABS pump? The garage also spoke of recoding the pump, which went so far over my head it left a contrail. I see that new/reconditioned pumps can be sourced here, has anyone used them?

Any advice gratefully received.

And no, I don't know what codes were generated!

(Although I found out this week that a mate locally has a full VCDS set up, which he uses for his VAG group cars so I may pop down this weekend and get a second opinion.)

Did the garage concerned provide the scan output by any chance. If not getting your friend to do a second scan and then posting the results may be a good next step

I’ve just had mine rebuilt by ecu services, turn around was a few days, and no need to code it as it’s the original, wasn’t that expensive and had a lifetime guarantee.

I have a few ABS pumps on the shelf, not expensive if you are willing to have a go, send me a pm.

Used before on various other cars very good service 100% recommended

Apologies for my ignorance but why do the pumps need coding?
The pump is part of the controller, and controller is coded to the car. You should scan the code, and save it safely, before removing it.
If you end up with a new controller, or the unexpected happens during repair, you'll need to re-enter the code. The code is in the header at the top of the controller scan:
Address 03: ABS Brakes
Labels: None
Controller: 8N0 907 379J
Component: ESP FRONT MK60 0101
Coding: 0019469
Shop #: WSC 01236
VCID: 43F975EA428D
No fault code found.

(Note: This is from the TT, but A2 will be similar).
Regardless of needing to recode or not, when re-fitting the controller, you should go through Basic Settings, to "calibrate" the system, as there are very likely to be changes in the pressure sensor outputs, especially if new sensors have been fitted.

So I ordered a lead from Gendan which arrived yesterday. I have just had an opportunity to plug it in to our A2 and run VCDS Lite. I need some help/advice on the codes generated if poss.

When I ran Auto Scan this is the report generated:

VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2

When I ran the scan for the ABS module this is the report that was generated:

VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.2

Thursday, 06 April 2023, 14:24:22.

Control Module Part Number: 8Z0 907 379 B

Component and/or Version: ESP 20 CAN V015

Software Coding: 10758

Work Shop Code: WSC 00000

VCID: 47E1D81F76B5

No fault code found.

So if there isn't a fault with the ABS why did the Auto Scan only highlight that module? Do I need to pay the $99 to Ross Tech to unlock more features in VCDS Lite, and would that show more detail?

I did get one error code early on, but once I cleared it down it never reappeared:

01130 ABS Operation
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

Did you go for a drive after clearing the error?
More info here
Not sure if you get the Auto Scan option on the free version. I'm sure someone will tell you soon.
From the info in the link, you have to go for a drive, before the dash light will clear, to confirm the actual fault is fixed and ABS is working.

Me again, sorry. I'm new to this VCDS lark. I realise now that I also had a code (as suggested by a member here) that refers to the Yaw sensor (Code 01542 57-10) and also 01542 (27-10).

Again after clearing these haven't reappeared but I'm guessing I would need to have the problem manifest when driving for the system to log the fault code?

The link I posted above doesn't work, here it is again 🤞
Just checked, and the Ross-Tech website, says no Auto Scan on free Lite. So you must scan each controller separately. Still, since you know the problem is with the ABS Controller, don't worry about the rest for now.
Go for a drive, if the dash light goes out, all's good, if it doesn't, then scan again.
Mac.

Oops. Sorry. Not sure what happened there. Simply switching off the car and restarting clears the warning lights, and they don't reappear for weeks.

The yaw sensor might be a one off. If not, it would be worth running Basic Settings for the sensor, to recalbrate the sensor, before thinking about replacing it.

That would need the registered, ($99), version though.
Well worth it
Mac and good value imo.

If you fix the fault it'll not reappear for even longer.
The fault that triggered the dash light will, very likely, come up in a scan. Then you'll know what it is, and if it's wise to ignore it.
Mac.
