Access to write-off database?

Does anyone have access to be able to check whether a car is a write-off and able to tell me whether BP04 TNL is an insurance write-off? I know I could do a full HPI report, but I wonder whether anyone in the club has access to this information for free?

I've bought a low mileage colourstorm A2 that has damage to the drivers side. Its been off the road for the last 8 years in dry storage, is fundamentally a good car but will need a lot of recommissioning due to parts now being corroded after storage.

I would ideally like to save it, but the volume of work needed is on a tipping point of whether its worth saving or whether its a breaker. Being insurance category registered could tip it the wrong way and mean that it has to be a breaker.

I used a company called my car check - £3.99 for basic check which will get you write off information and a lot more besides

Obviously if was a Cat C it would be on the V5. Usually if you start an advert on Autotrader it comes up automatically if it is a cat c/d/s/n before you get to the payment stage, nothing comes up on this one, I have doubled check with one of our cars that's a insurance write off and it came up as a cat D so that method still works

Not ever written off.
A minor mileage descrepancy (around 600 miles “lost” between MOTs but no write off in its history

No, it's not put on the V5. A trader has a legal obligation to tell prospective purchasers.

Thanks Steve ? The 600 mileage discrepancy is probably just the tester writing down the numbers wrong between MOT’s.
 
When they changed the categories
No longer is it C or D etc. they have new categories now.

I must admit it was 18 months ago we sold the car but we had owned it for about 5 years. I know it is cat S and N now, it is a lottery as we have a friend that repairs insurance write offs and he says if it is a prestigious car like porsche, Aston Martin etc they are rarely catagorised so the insurance company can sell them for more money.
 
Its now called;
CAT S for Structural damage cars
CAT N for Non Structural damage, cosmetic damage ( costing more than value of the car, but using cheap second hand panels could put it back on the road in no time )
 
Well I stuck a gallon of super unleaded in it tonight and took it for a run around some private ground. Engine is very quite for a car that’s been stood for 8 years. Everything seems to work as well which is surprising. Unfortunately having stuck it up on ramps it’s going to need too much work to get it through an MOT. New discs and pads all around, rear calipers, cat back exhaust, wishbones both sides and brake lines. I haven’t looked at bushes but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a few drop links/track rod ends needed too. Combined with the drivers side doors needing replacing it’s not economically viable unfortunately.
