Adaptor for aftermarket HU

I had a shopping spree in Halfords and ended up with a Pioneer DAB s720 HU along with DAB aerial.

Previously I purchased the Connects 2 adaptor and found it in the garage. Has anyone already used one of these adaptors successfully to power up a Pioneer ?

The connects 2 box stated Audi A2 2002 to 2005 but I have read on this forum that it can be a minefield.

Thanks for your help,

Raymie

I never actually got round to fitting one but here's the links that bass junkies sent to me for all the stuff required....

Thanks Edd,
that adapter seems more sophisticated than the one in the box I have !
By the way did you settle for the plug in bluetooth adaptor or have you just not got round to fitting the HU ?

Hi, yes something about my 04 car having canbus and talking to the DIS screen I have to show radio station etc. May also be the adaption for the rear amp speakers. Sadly as with most of the A2 simple driving pleasure and function has a complex background!!

In the end it was cheaper and easier to plug a Bluetooth hands free thing into the cd changer and be done with it.

Sadly my radio on the concert 2 doesn't work anymore so I now stream everything. Prefer fm though as it has a richer analogue sound to my old ears

@Raymie have you got a picture of your adaptor? You’ll need the phantom power supply to power your factory aerial. If you don’t have amplified rear speakers any cheap conversion look with work. You should have a termination resistor on CAN bus, but there’s a chance your original radio doesn’t even have CANBUS there anyway

Hi Nate,
My TDi SE is an 03 plate without DIS . It has the CD concert (II ? with) rear spearkers and sounds really good.

I have checked the adaptor still in the box and can confirm it is the 'AU09' connector as shown in @CrispyEdd 's picture above; I also have the SEAT facia panel.

I have not got the phantom power lead so this is next on the list.

As I am converting to a DAB HU with a new separate aerial I did not think the original aerial connection was required ?.

The amplifier for the rear speakers is something I had not considered....

Yeah that should work. For reference, DIS is controlled by the 3LB “bus” or CAN and steering wheel controls are controlled on CAN bus.

The aerial that comes with it is just for DAB usually, and it uses your original antenna for FM. If you don’t want FM, you can just leave it disconnected.

Reading the description of your adaptor, it appears it is designed to make the rear speakers work with aftermarket systems, so you should be okay

I'm pretty sure that no aftermarket radios will interface with the DIS. The OEM radios have the canbus connection and so communicate with the DIS.

Just edited my post for clarity. And yeah you’re right, mainly because non of them output information, like current station. If they output it then making an adapter would be fairly simple

Hi,
I know the bluetooth adaptor to the Concert II is the most pragmatic solution but wanted to try the aftermarket HU for the iphone compatible features that my daughter will expect !

First question from Her when I bought the car was does it have bluetooth !

Out of interest, what extra iPhone features do you gain with an after market HU against a BT adaptor on the Concert/Chorus II? I'm an Android person myself.
Given youngster's phone addiction, hands free mic and cradle might be a safety feature.
