Advice on buying a 1.6 a2

Hi all, just had to say goodbye to my v6 3.2 alfa gtv, I have to get a 'family' car, so I must say I love these!! I always have and can't believe that I can get one for £8k! I really just want to know what I need to look out for on a car with around 40k thats the 1.6 petrol sport version. I hear they have a decent engine, though it's not going to be what I'm used to, but having kids is nothing Im used to either lol.

Any advice would be great, I must say that the alfa owers forums were amazing and the guys had so much tech-how on the gtv, its a hard car to keep alive, Im hoping that the audi lives up to its name and lasts a heck of a lot better than the alfa! Evey drive opened a can of worms! But it was fun.

Im thinking I need to look out for the timing belt thing.
Look for knocking in steer rack.
Test clutch for bite point

But I'm drawing on you guys (you seem to know your a2's!)

Thanks and I love the forum, I guess I came to the party late, but its a good party!

Thanks #
Chris

I think the one at Grimsby Audi has sold, I dont recall seeing it when I went there last week to collect my diesel sport, it had been there the previous week....

Cheers Guys!
Well Im a new a2 owner, signed up the day, took only a short test drive and I was secure the car is great! I've plans already to make it mine, so will be torturing you all soon. I have got the dealer to agree to put it through the mot and give me a 3 month warranty, its 4 year is up in march, so come then he will take it back in and have it ready to pass.

The guy seemed top notch, so I haggled gently to £7,750 and left it there, I just wanted not to pay the top line, but not screw him for his wages. I get the thing paid for this week and will be behind the wheel by friday for a saturday drive.

I must say that the 1.6 is not 'nippy'. I did smile driving it after leaving my 3.2 v6 to test drive it. Its a very sound machine, and im my first off, a very well built one, one that will last me a few years with hopefully little upkeep. Heck - anything is better than an alfa! The only reason they have heated rear screens is to keep you warm pushing them in the snow!

See you soon and thanks!
chris
