Aero mods

Can anyone plese tell me if the 1.2 3L aero parts are still available anywhere or if anyone makes pattern parts?
i’m looking to improve the efficiency of my 1.4 TDI 75 mainly for motorway use.
i have an 85 mile each way commute and even a 10% improvement will save me a small fortune!
I’m also looking to get a mild remap and a 6 speed gearbox with the overdrive 6th. Plus pepperpot alloys with thinner, low roll resistance tyres. I’ve already removed the rear seats and false floor.
Any help or advice would be most gratefully welcomed.

165/65R15 fitted to 5Jx15 ET28 steel rims would help reduce drag.

They should still be available to order through an Audi parts department, although they are about £73 each.

Notice that the OEM part numbers for the 5Jx15 ET28 steel rims and the 5.5x15 ET34 steel rims are almost the same, ie. 8Z0601027A for the 5Jx15 ET28 steel rims, and 8Z0601027 for the 5.5Jx15 ET34 steel rims.

The hubcaps are the same for either rim.

Drawing from my recent postings here:

Strangely, on my car (remapped ATL), I’m not seeing much, if any, consumption improvement with the six speed over what other ATL owners are reporting with the standard box. However it does make the car very refined and relaxed as all the gears are longer (PTW box) so it’s worth it for that reason, but don’t expect any contribution back towards the cost from fuel savings.

Unfortunately I never got to drive the car with the standard box so I have nothing to compare with, but the tank average according to DIS (which has yet to be checked with the calculation at the pump) is around 52/53mpg on a mix of local and longer runs around here (blackdown hills, I’m sure if I lived over the border in Somerset it’d probably be around 55mpg average for the same usage).

The aero mode parts still available from Audi are the wheel arch winglets and central subframe spoiler, however the transmission tunnel cover hasn’t been available for a long time and is impossible to find now. Has anyone come up with a homemade replacement?

You’ll also find my thread on the lower grille block I posted recently, I understand there could be a gain to be had there, but you’d need to leave the inter cooler grille open.

One other option to consider is a block heater if you have access to power where you park your car - the diesels are very inefficient until warmed up. I have this on my car but as it’s currently on loan to a family member I've not had a chance to use it yet.

I found changing standard 16" SE alloys for standard 15" alloys gave me a 10% improvement in economy, which I think was mostly down to the reduced rotational weight, so less wasted energy with acceleration and braking. Narrower tyres should help too.
