Hi Guys,

My Alhambra has sprung an air con leak and i'm looking to get it fixed asap before i run into anymore problems. Can you recommend an air con specialist that will test for a leak and possibly repair around North Lanarkshire or Glasgow area?

Thanks

Hi Mr Angry,
Have you had any work done recently, I ask because I had a mk2 Galaxy that used to loose a bit of gas over winter but could be rescued with a top up kit from halfrauds & the only failure in 14 years & 190000 miles came about after a new clutch being fitted.
I took it to a local guy who offered a no charge if I can’t get it colder than it was !
On vacuum test it was fine but when pressure tested it leaked on one of the two metal pipes -(high & low pressure) I purchased new pipe from main dealer with 2 new o rings & fitted before returning to A/C guy for recharging .

The last time I had an A/C system tested for leaks, a nationwide mobile service filled the system with nitrogen and looked for leaks using an instrument that was sensitive to refrigerant! Of course, he then claimed there weren't any leaks, filled up the system with refrigerant and departed. A few days later I was back to square one! Check for leaks by looking for oil deposits. The likely source is the condenser because of its' light construction and large surface area. Change the dryer at the same time.

Another possible cause is that the pressure sensor has failed, such that refrigerant is present but the sensor reads zero and therefore prevents the A/C from working. You should be able to change the sensor without emptying/refilling the system.

No, i haven't done any work outside of the car but i have changed the interior seats. It was working fine last week although i do hear a kind of weird noise coming from the vents, it sounds like a grinding noise when the air con is running.

Hi Guys,

Got it tested and then regassed/oiled etc.. it was low and it looked like the pressure switch kicked in and stopped it from working. All topped up and working great, cost me £60 but good service from the guy i used :D

He should hopefully have put a fluorescent dye in with the new refrigerant, keep an eye around the system especially under the condenser for signs of it escaping. If you have a leak, that will pinpoint it, allowing the correct remedial work and subsequent re-fill.

Good to get it topped up quickly. My dad didn’t bother for a while, the lubricant dispersed in the system wore down, the condenser pump got more and more stiff - eventually everything on that belt fell apart because of the resistance!
