Air Conditioning 01271 - Positioning Motor for Temperature Flap (V68)

yeah, they should help quite a bit. Especially the specifics about where to put the parts when they go back in, that's really quite important.

Does anybody know the part number for the V68 Motor? I have a 2004 A2 1.4 Petrol BBY and I am aware that there are two possible part numbers.
Also where is the best place to get one of these new?

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Thanks-Padraig.

I don’t have part number to hand unfortunately but what I did is remove my faulty v68 motor (part number is printed on it) and call my local TPS or your local Audi garage parts counter will do. Payed roughly £140

I was quite lucky and picked one up on Ebay for cheap 60 quid and got those nice guys at wom to fit as it's pretty fiddly. I'll try and find the part number later if no one else can provide

Hi the change over between the two parts was 8Z-4-018625 so check your VIN if you are before or after that in MY2004.

Before the part is 6Q0907511 and after 6Q0907511C but the later part has been superseded by 6R0907511C so that will work too.

The temperature motor is the easiest to change as you just need to remove the glove box but you need a mirror or endescope camera to line the gears up properly on reassembly.

It’s a job that cannot be rushed that’s all the advice I can give, and must stress as mentioned gears must be aligned up correct so take plenty of pictures to look back on.

Let us know how you get on

Thanks Ross. There aren't too many Ross Cannings around however I managed to go to school with one in West of Ireland.

I priced it at my local VW dealer using the part number 6R0907511C (thanks ajsellors for the part numbers and the chassis reference) and it came out to EUR €190/£164 (I live in Ireland).

Doing a bit of digging around on eBay I discovered that you could get a 'Hella Premium line' replacement for approximately stg £70. The Hella part number is 6NW351344-021 and I managed to find a brand new one listed on amazon for £53, Amazon have an offer at the moment that you get £10 off for the first purchase if you install the Amazon app even if you have an account already. (I must stress that I do not work for Amazon, and I have deleted the app already because of temptation!).

In the end the part cost me stg £50/€60 which includes £6 delivery to Ireland-delivery in the UK I think is free.

Now all I have to do is get it fitted which for some inexplicable reason I have decided to try to do myself. In the end my mechanic will probably have to fit it and he will probably (definitely!) charge me double what he would have charged me if I had left well enough alone.

I have both 03 & 04 plate A2’s and v68 motor connections are different so yes It’ll be different before 2004.

So that's a substitute only for the new part, not the old one before 2004 ?

Ross Canning is correct- the manufacturer part number (in this case a 'Hella Premium line' replacement part) is for the MY2004 onwards. I have a had a quick look and cannot find the Hella or BEHR equivalent part number for the 2000 to 2003 model years. I will do some more research tomorrow and if I come up with something I will let you know.

The earlier design was only used on the A2 and Polo / Fabia / Ibiza models at that time where as the revised design continued to be used in the A1 as well as the other VAG small cars until very recently so there will be lots of cars out there with this part so high demand. I can understand therefore that there are alternatives available for the more recent and wildly used part. It may not be possible to get an alternative for the earlier one. As my 2004 model uses the earlier part, I bought a spare from eBay recently for when it breaks....

I have had a good look on the internet and even on the Hella/Behr 'Premium Line' website ( https://www.hella.com/hella-resources/2808.html)
it only lists the 6Q0907511C/6R0907511C as new replacement part- it looks like that if you want it new, you can only source part no: 6Q0907511 from Audi and not from Hella/Behr/Bosch etc . You are right to get 6Q0907511 as a spare because it looks like it is a case of When not if the V68 motor will fail.

I've had this fault for a few years now. Partly frightened to let anyone mess with it that wasn't fully familiar and not willing to have a go myself.
This spring /early summer after much massaging of the + and - controls of both temperature and fan settings the car seemed to start cooling a little. Its been 5 years since I had the climate serviced and the refrigerant recharged. I subsequently checked the system for faults with my basic scanner and Torque app (thanks Sarge) and to my surprise the App registered no faults. Nothing.

So today I had the climate control serviced and re- gassed and to my delight I have icy cold air conditioning for the first time in years. Very handy for the 5 days per year hot sunshine we enjoy in Alba ???????.

I've no doubt the fault may emerge again. For now I'm a happy chappy.??

Just for Info, I followed a German thread (Anleitung Ausbau Stellmotoren der Klima)

on changing the temperature flap motor ( mine was blowing hot air- really hot even when set to cool) - worked a treat, bought a new part for €80, installed without removing dash ( LHD car). Set up the initial position as detailed in the thread and works ( time will tell-if it’s a permanent fix but it does appear so). I made a few mistakes along the way - thought if I preserved and marked the position of the gears on removal and replaced with the new unit in the same orientation - unfortunately it then only provided cold air irrespective of the temp setting. Reset the gears to the initial position outlined in the thread and now works.
