Aircon only blowing cold air

Hello everybody,

I'm aksing for your help because we have got a problem for few weeks now with our A2.

The air vents are only blowing cold air even if the temperature on the screen is set on '' HI ''.
I've been thinking about the thermostat but the car goes up to temperature normaly and it stays at 90 degrees.

Another issue, the fans are sometimes doing what they want until the car is warm.
They blow air like crazy, then they stop blowing at all and after that, they are blowing air at normal speed.
We have that since we bought the car and it wasn't a big problem because after 5mn of driving everything was fine... But maybe it's related to the temperature problem that we have now.

Have you got any ideas ?
Is it a common fault ?

Thank you in advance for your help :).

PS : the car is a 1.6 Fsi.

Hi, it would help diagnose the AC problem (and many others), if you can scan with a diagnostic software tool called VCDS. The problem could be one of several different things, and the scan results will give us a big clue to the faulty part. You can download a free, official version of VCDS from here:

(only use this download, other similar offers are suspect).

You'll need a lead, search ebay for KKL Diagnostic Lead (about £5 in UK) .
You'll need a laptop, but nothing special, any version of Windows, XP, 7, 10.
Just ask if you need more info. I have an FSI, ours is Mauritius Blue Sport.
Mac.

Thank you for your answer :).
I'll see what I can do with that.

I've also noticed another symptom on the car.
My GF is driving mostly in town and the heating doesn't work in that situation.
Yesterday she drove for 45mn on the highway (so at high rpm) and in this case the heating was working fine.

I've seen on other topics that it can be the flaps that allow cold or hot air to go through the cabin that can be stuck.

Yes, the flaps are a possible cause. Usually, the servo motor that drives them fails. A VCDS scan will show you which flap is at fault, (if it actually is a flap problem, best not to guess). You could ask your local Audi Centre what they would charge to just do a scan. In UK, Audi sometimes offer a free health check, worth a call, I'd think. Good luck.

I'll try with your link first as the Audi dealers in my area are really bad.

I'll keep this thread updated when I ve got the answer, it can help other members.

Thanks again !

I’m guessing you have tired changing the temperature up and down a lot I mean for like 30 minutes to try and free the flap if it is stuck this has solved this for me as it happens in one of my cars every year

Hello,

Finally the problem is solved.
It was an earth problem.

The car had few little electric issues : aircon only blowing cold air, passenger side view mirror was just ajustable from left to right, rear interior light wasn't working from time to time and finally the car doesn't wanted to start.

After solving the earth problem, the car started again and all the other electrical problems were solved.

We only have the car back since yesterday so finger crossed.
