Alarm problems

Hi

My 2002 Audi A2 1.6fsi's alarm has recently started to play up. It tends to go off continuously at times and sometimes after 6 or 7 hours.
Can anyone advise or has anyone experienced the same problem, who can help rectify the fault?

Kind regards
Suddy

Hi Sarge

Thanks for responding. Can you please tell me where the comfort unit sensor(?) can be located on the Audi A2?.
Have you experienced a similar problem?

Mine used to randomly goes off, sometimes consistently for a while. The common conclusion is that the alarm siren unit has a dead or dying battery (if you search for siren/alarm here). Which is also common on A3/TT sharing the same unit. I also have VAG-COM, which when my alarm went off at random, I ran diagnostics and the glass breakage sensor had repeatedly came up.

However, I've never gotten round to replacing mine and have not noticed the alarm goes off randomly after I replaced my car battery in December. That leads me to think a dodgy car battery made also trigger the sensors and trip the alarm.

You should get someone with VAG-COM or a friendly garage to first clear all your fault codes. Then when the alarm goes off, take it back for a diagnostic and see what's tripping the alarm, the ECU has a record which sensor caused it. Then work from there.

Hi Suddy
Another possibility for the alarm going off is a faulty back-up battery in the alarm unit. With this fault, tha alarm often gives 4 beeps when the car is first started in the morning etc. See the later posts in the attached thread for more info - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4350&highlight=beeps
A diagnostic scan may help pinpoint the problem before splashing out on replacement parts.

Cheers Spike

Just seen Humps beat me to it with more or less similar suggestions.

The comfort unit is located under the passenger floor. However I would explore other possibilities that members suggested. Personally I wasn't aware of this particular alarm fault.
