Almost had a heart attack

As I installed a new 12v socket (since I broke the last one - though it was very corroded), my colour DIS gave me a heart attack by displaying a 'Alternator Failure' warning... Checked the voltage, which seemed ok - just under 12v (+/- 11.70v). I managed to start the car and the voltage went up to +/- 14.52v.

Should I be worried?

That's interesting. My ColourDIS sometimes does the same thing, although I never use the 12V socket by the handbrake (I do have one in the rear that I use to keep the battery charged, that's wired directly via a fused link). However, no such complaints today even though it took a couple of seconds for the battery light to go out.

Only if the voltage is below 12.5 volts, ign off, after a run.
11.7 volts is very low, battery not charged.
Without knowing the calculation/algorithm the CDIS uses to identify "Alternator Failure" you can only fall back on voltage measurements.
Did you diss the battery while you worked on the socket, or, maybe, a momentary short?
Mac.

Battery is about 3 years old, car isn't being run that often (once weekly). I will check the voltage again tomorrow. As I am self isolation after having visited my family in Belgium, I cannot take the car for a longer drive until next week. I didn't have any issues starting the car, all went as usual, very smootly.

For me it seems that it sees lower voltage than actually at battery. Never investigated deeply. Might also be somehow linked to a voltage stabilizer...
Not unusual to see under 10,xV on colorMFA before starting the car. Good battery and voltages otherwise.

If CDIS gets the battery voltage wrong, I'd worry what else. Maybe it struggles with analogue inputs.
