Alternator Regulator ?

On my 1.4 sport the battery light stays on for 5-10 seconds after i start and sometimes when it does start it seems to initially struggle to maintain revs before reving normally and the light going off. I should add that the majority of the time theres no issue at all and its never failed to start.

I read on here sometime ago that there had been isseus with the regulator on the alternator - do these come in one part?

do i need to have the alternator replaced or is the regulator something i can change myself ?

interested in any comments!
 
For me adding an additional earth is essential for all A2 owners and easier than messing with the factory item, i did a thread if you search "starshine" it explains my trouble
 
yes, it is a seperate part, and yes, you can replace it on its own. You will need to know the current capability of the present alternator, though.
