Has anyone else encountered problems with interference whilst listening to AM, over and above what one might normally expect to encounter? Specifically, I have a problem with interference which changes pitch according to engine speed so as to render AM signals almost inaudible. If anyone knows how this could be corrected, I'd appreciate it if you could drop me a line.

Many thanks,

There is a known problem with the AM reception in the A2-Audi know about it but seem reluctant to accept it as a big issue and therefore provide a workable solution.

I'll throw it open to the forum as I know many other people have the same issue and have been pushing their dealer to rectify. I even think Kaine may have had some work done to try and rectify the issue...

I just installed a new JVC headunit in my A2, last week. Although I'm not an avid listener of AM stations, I did do a quick scan of the AM band (because I knew of the problems).

Can't say I thought the reception was that bad at all. Granted, at certain frequencies you get some alternator noise, but not the two stations that I listened to for a bit, 747 and 675 (I think).

Most times alternator noise is caused by bad earth connections. Maybe the Audi Concert/Symphony aren't that well hooked up? Surely a dealer could try and draw an extra power line for better earthing. Maybe that helps. Or buy a 2003 model ;)

The Concert-type Radio/CD-changer I heard in the 2002 petrol A2 of my dealer also had a really bad fix of alternator whining, even when playing CD. I'm glad my own A2 + JVC KD-SH909RB doesn't do that!

Hi,

Sorry Steve, wasn't me. Had the same discussion with my dealer as most of us, however didn't get round to trying any solutions.

Sorry to "finger" you on this one-I'm just too darn lazy to do a search for the info!.

Burhan-I'm sure you'll get lots of replies on this one-we all suffer the same!

Well, I guess it's comforting in some ways to know that others have been experiencing similar problems (solidarity with my fellow A2 owners, not being the odd one out etc), but it's also a little worrying that Audi, as a manufacturer which prides itself on the quality of its products, could be so lax. In any case it'll certainly be helpful to take the car to the dealership with a firm idea of what is wrong - thanks!

My car has been to the dealer a few times to have this sorted out, but despite me informing them that there was a fix for it (I forget who here had it sorted, but it was at Wayside Audi in MK) they refuse to do anything about it until Audi UK issues an official solution for it.

I think they're just worried that they may not be able to claim back the work under warranty.

Suffolk is more dangerous than you think...

I purchase my A2 when they first came out, needless to say that I don't have it any more. One of the intresting charecteriscs was the AM reception, it was bad.

Get your dealer to exchange the amplifier for one with a different batch No, the restored the AM reception on mine.

The amplifier is definatly the problem

[23]Hi all,

Had a problem with an aftermarket CD/Radio fitted by dealer, but after much phoning and 'discussion' they fitted an Audi concert single slot CD.
No probs with AM FM now at all, I think the Audi player comes with an extra signal bootster fitted...
