AMF Polo engine replacement

There are some threads about doing this swap with some really great tips on compatibility (oil sensor, dipstick, injectors etc) as shown here: https://www.a2oc.net/community/index.php?threads/polo-amf-engine-in-an-a2.28992/

I may well have to get this done in the near future - just wondering if anybody who has successfully completed the job has any long term feedback on reliability? Appreciate of course it depends on the donor engine and skill in putting all the parts back correctly, but just wondering if this would be a better option both mechanically and also cheaper v a replacement head?

On the cost comparision, factor in possible extra long term insurance increases. Swapping to a polo AMF engine will inevitably be treated as a modication, give your insurance provider a call.

I did this to my old Audi, I found a Fabia 1.4 TDI engine that i had a company fit about 11 years ago. I remember him saying he got the engine in and then realised the dipstick was through the front flap, and as such had to remove it again to get the sleeve fitted, it was a real sod for such a small thing.

The engine itself ran beautifully and is still going strong 80,000 miles later, it uses no oil at all. It was 11 years ago though so sourcing an engine like this would be hard.

The engine I purchased had 47,000 miles on the clock, and was in a one owner Fabia hit hard off side writing it off.

It was a professional fit by a Porsche specialist near Nazeing, a friend of a family friend.
