AMF TDI Owners - EGR Blank

All,

For those of us owning AMF engined TDI's that run with the EGR blanked, either through a plate or software, I have a question. :p From before the EGR being blanked compared to after, was there any noticeable time increase for the car to go from a cold engine to 90 degrees? :)

The AMF engine has no EGR cooler linked in with the coolant system, so I'm interested to know of the effects noticed by others.

Regards,

Matt. :)

I has a stealth remap and EGR disable and I have not noticed any increase in time to reach operating temperature.

That is over a year now too.

Thanks for the reply Steve. :)

I'm asking because the VW we have in the family has recently pierced it's EGR valve diaphragm, meaning the EGR no longer functions. As such, it has been noticed that the car takes much much longer to warm up. After noticing recently that my TDI takes longer to warm up and only just reaches 90 on my way to work, where it previously would have been sat at 90 for some time, I think my EGR blank may be causing the issue. I will be removing the blanking plate and seeing how it goes. :p

But it has been colder lately !!! LOL

Seriously perhaps the preheater (Webasto or Electric, not sure which yours has, probably electric) may be not working, or the combination of outside temperature and climate settings meant that it has not reached its trigger point?

I thought I'd update this.

So, I removed the blank a few months ago and the car was noticeably quicker in warming up. A slight lag has come back between constant speed and acceleration, but it is only very small and worth the shorter warm up time. :p

Matt.

Has your fuel economy improved too Matt?

Trying to decide whether to blank the egr in my BHC!

Does the VW have coolant-cooled EGR (like an A2 1.2Tdi)? If it does, that would explain it as, initially at least, the EGR heats up the coolant!

Hi,

The VW's AUY engine and Sco's BHC engine both have EGR coolers, so warm up time will definitely be affected by the EGR being disabled.

Regarding fuel consumption, I found the difference to be negligible. With the EGR disabled, it was maybe slightly better on long journeys and slightly worse on short journeys. Personally, I would keep it as standard. :)

Matt.
