An OpenSky is reborn!

Ah, so Chris has left? That might explain why the thank you email I sent him wasn't replied too. I thought it was odd not to get an acknowledgement, as they seemed a professional bunch...

Having just read this entire thread, it looks as if many Open Sky owner have had a real result with Worthing Audi. Great work guys. However, being the owner of a 10 year plus A2, this doesn't apply to me. Does anyone know how to get a skyroof fixed for less than the price of the car!

Sure I read that Worthing Audi were offering good deals on fitting new OS to cars over 10 years old so its worth asking for a price.
If you would enjoy your car even more with a working OS roof then the cars value is not the be all and end all. For example, Ive read that people are paying up to £16000 for rebuilt moggie 1000's. Compared to an A2 its chalk and cheese but I know what I'd rather spend my cash on.

Cheers Spike

yes it probably does.
If you open it carefully by assisting the panels and lube it properly then you might be ok.

Are Worthing still taking care of cars with full Audi history and open sky issues? I have an 03 SE with open sky not working, but full Audi history at Audi Wimbledon, last serviced just in March. Its a long way for me to go but if it can be sorted it would be worthwhile.

Yes, they are. You need to get in touch with the service manager in order to qualify. They will ask you to send over a copy of a service book and other necessary info. Your car being year 03, with the full Audi history, you are fitting in. There was some delay with the part supply recently, but it seems that all back to normal. Good luck!

I called about mine in July took in paperwork etc, no word, called again before the 10 years was up, to be told chris had left and there was a backlog of cars. not to worry mine would be fitted in. Still waiting ..........

Has the Worthing goodwill started to wear a bit thin? My '03 has full history with the last one stamped 9 months ago...But, in 2007, it was presented 5 weeks late for it's service. (The preceding one was a Longlife). This anomaly/oversight is deemed to be outside the remit of the 'goodwill' scheme. I was quite prepared to have a Full service as part of the deal, but no, the manager was quite adamant. So no new OSS for Squeezed loaf.
All is not lost, i guess; maybe I should pursue the Rinner route before the car reaches it's 10th birthday.

That's them being awkward, and wholly inconsistent. I'm sure Rinner will do it for you; they were more than happy to take on my car and its early history is peppered with indy services.

My OpenSky died on my last week. Opens only on one side, a couple of cm's before it stops. Was on my way to get coil-overs fitted when it happened, so asked the shop, an independent Audi-specialist, to take a look at it. The verdict was: It all needs replacement, estimate £2500-3000. :(

Have read through this thread, a lot of great informastion here! Seems a road trip south to Rinner is my best bet.
My car had the first few services up to about 60K Km done at an Audi dealer, then the last ones at an independent garage. It now has 120K Km.

What do you suggest I do now? Do I get in touch with Rinner and check with them right away, or do I get a service at an Audi dealership first? Will a stamp in the service book be good enough for Rinner, or will they also check the ELSA system online for
information? I have no idea if work done at Norwegian dealers are logged in the ELSA system, suspect not.

How does Rinner determine if a car is good for warranty repair or not?

Thanks!

It depends on whether the goodwill has run out at Worthing Audi, Audi UK or Audi GMBH i.e. worldwide. If it's a local change of policy after (or because) Chris left Worthing, you shouldn't have any problems. If it's an Audi worldwide change of heart, you might be on a sticky wicket.

You could always try contacting Audi in Germany to ask them how strict the less than 10 years old rule + full Audi servicing is...

I have made the trip to Rinner.
I would recommend you get in contact with them immediately. Do not have your car serviced before you go as Rinner will require you to purchase a LongLife service in order to get the goodwill on the OpenSky system.
They will want your vehicle indentification number and will run a few checks, but you certainly don't need to have immaculate Audi service history. My car certainly doesn't, and hadn't been serviced by Audi for a few years prior to its trip to Rinner, but they didn't mind at all.

Good luck,

Tom

I was told it was 10 years (based on date of manufacture, not registration), Audi service history and below 100,000 miles

Thanks! Read your post earlier, brilliant!
I have had similar experiences with my past Audis when doing service in Germany. A totaly different league of professionalism and customer focus than here in Norway, for sure! I also bought several cars from German dealers in tha past, they were way better than expected experiences in every way.

I will check out what Audi Zentrum Kiel says about warranty replacement as well, it could save me of 2000 Km's driving.

Sounds like since Chris left Worthing they've dropped the ball on continuing their good work! Does anyone have any idea where Chris went - seems he was key to working through the Audi GoodWill system?
When is your car's 10th Birthday? Rinners would definitely be an option if you don't get anywhere further with Audi UK.
