And so it begins...

Well, it would appear the "Shoebox" has grown its first problems..

Seems sometimes when I start the car the CL motors click and lock the doors, you cant undo them with the internal switch so have to lock/unlock the car with the fob, weird tho as it never used to do it and it doesnt do it all the time...

There also seems to be a bit of a creak (for want of a better word) down the driverside sometimes, only seems to do it on uneven ground or going over speedbumps, which is also the same time the last problem presents itself, sometimes theres a knock from the driverside front end....

How many of these are normal characteristics of the car and how many of them are take it back and moan faults?

Hi Trig,

The last problem sounds like the ARB or droplinks could need a nbit of attention and the creaking could be the spring or top bearing needing a bit of TLC.

As for the CL fault, an occasional actuation is normal, but the unlock button should always open the car. Try re-syncing the keys:

The ARB is a known weakness on early A2s and the design was subsequently changed to overcome this.

Cheers Mike, give me something to do this weekend lol..
Is it possible to change the ARB from an earlier to later style one or is it a case of just replace like for like?

No, the earlier type is no longer available and replacing the ARB always entails upgrading to the newer design.

Right, had a bit of a play earlier, it only seems to actually lock the passengerside door, all of the other doors inc the boot stay unlocked and even if you press the unlock button with the key in the ignition it doesnt unlock the car, you have to remove the key and then unlock before the door opens...

I'll grab a battery this weekend and try to re-pair the key and then go from there, then knowing my luck next weekend I'll remove the doorcard and replace the passenger side wiring or CL motor lol...

A diagnostic scan would be worth while to ascertain further possible causes. Otherwise, try swapping out the central convenience controller for a known working one.

Mike

Is it possible to flash the codes out of one of these things yourself???

How do you mean?

If you are asking if it's possible to scan the car yourself, then the answer is yes, as long as you have the right equipment.

Cheers,

Mike

Ok, whats the right equipment, I've got the paperclip I used to use to get the codes out of my previous vauxhalls :)
