Has anyone here used Angel Tuning for their diesel A2?

A forum search shows that Murdo has used them for his A4.

I'm interested to hear of any reviews.

I've been quoted £150 as part of a group buy which is £75 cheaper than Stealth, so quite tempting.

Does A2 remapping required specific knowledge of the A2 or is it more generic than that?

Thanks.

edi: just learnt that the price is £150 + VAT. Very good :)

Whilst I suspect the basics of remapping are the same, I would be wary of saving a couple of quid and going to someone who does not have a track record of working on A2's.

Hi

Not used, but I'm booked in for Stealth - I'm more than happy to pay for their experience, I've read nothing but great reports on them. And they answered every question I could throw at them whilst I was trying to make my decision of whether to remap or not! Very helpful.

I cant speak for any of their other franchises, but the remap I had done was carried out at my work and therefore no 'rolling road' facility for set up. The result was a lot of smoke from the exhaust when the turbo kicked in, especially when cold. Better quality fuel improved things slightly, but this was always an irritation to an otherwise satisfactory remap. The local franchisee Paul Winston was very knowledgable and helpful too.
When I eventually get round to having Ada remapped, I'll spend the extra money and have a rolling road set up. (£150 is good though!)

Just to confirm some details (price), here's a post from Nigel (Angel Tuning) taken from a nother forum this morning:

Firstly, apologies for not having the price PDF's online anymore, we are taking legal action against two lesser companies who were downloading and printing them before putting their sticker overtop our logo and then uploading them to their own site, so we were advised to remove them until it was all over.

OK, prices. Usual price is between £275 and £340 depending on the car, which includes VAT and the technician coming to your location

During April we have two offers available
1. For an individual there is a £50 discount
OR
2. If there are two cars in one location the second car can be done at a 50% discount. The two offers cannot be mixed hence the "Alternatively" on the offer text emails. Therefore if there are two cars at £275 each the total would be £412.50, however we are actually doing it at £400 the pair, so its £200 each including VAT and coming to the location

We often hire a technician out to garages and clubs etc for £1500 + VAT per day, where up to 15 cars can be done (if there are over this number we hire out 2 technicians for £2500 + VAT). However this is obviously in one location only but if you have 10 people its just £176.25 each for example. This offer is full time, not just during April

We can host a day if required at an outlet in Banbury called Gama Motorsport (www.gamamotorsport.com) in Banbury, Oxon (just off J11 of the M40), which is a Mercedes and BMW service specialist as well as an outlet for Angel Tuning

My suggestion would be to look at pairing up people to take advantage of the £400 offer which includes the VAT AND coming to you as its only £20 more expensive at the moment than 10 of you getting together in one location. That’s just a suggestion, its your thread of course :)

If we can help any further, please do give me a call, my direct number is 01926 614027 (please leave a message as I spend most of my life on the phone!) rather than post a question here as I rarely have time to trawl the thousands of forums to pick up questions then people think I am rude for not answering them!

Best regards

Nigel
Angel Tuning

The venue looks likely to be in the West London or surrounding area. So if you're interested let me know and I can provide further details when I know more.

So to clarify if 15 people sign up the price is £100 +VAT

hi
im up for this i wanted a remap, sent you a pm

Thank you Stephen. Please let me know once you have paid your deposit and been given an allocated time slot.

For your information here are some further details regarding the day ahead. My appointment is at 8am and my wife and I need to dash off on our long w/e holiday soon afterwards. So it may be that we don't meet. My appologies, but I hope you have a good day anyway and enjoy chatting to some of the MBClub guys.

Hi .....

Thank you for booking into the MB UK Forum group day to be held on the 1st May 2010, hosted by Gama Motorsport.

We have you scheduled for xx:yy, however we will bo operating a ticket system on the day and should someone have turned up prior to you arriving and we are ready for the next car we will utilise the time and do them next. Please be flexible with us as far as possible and we will do likewise. We have done this in the past and seems to be the fairest way.

Hot and cold drinks will be available on the day, however due to the attendees being spread throughout the day, we will not be providing food on the day as we simply wont know how many will still be there at lunchtime. However there are a few places to eat around Banbury that Matt can recommend on the day should you so require.

Toilet facilities are available on site and a number of chairs etc will be provided, however this will not be a frequent flyer "departure lounge" :) Hopefully it will be a pleasant day, if not, there will be ample room inside, but please remember this is a workshop too and we would duly ask you to not wander around as our insurance will not cover you. Sorry for the public service broadcast, be we find clarity is better than a grey area and we would like your time with us to be enjoyable but safe and comfortable.

The address to come to is:-

Gama Motorsport
Riverside Business Park
Riverside,
Banbury OX16 5TU
0844 414 5704

I am sure most of you have Sat Nav which finds the place to a degree..... basically turn down past Morrison's and turn left over the canal bridge and take the first right. Drive to the end of the road, bear left then right and we are there. There is ample parking, however please be advised that the first row of spaces is for the tyre place in the first unit and those spaces are for their customers.

Obviously if you get lost on the day in Banbury, call us first on the Gama number or if you get lost in general call the Angel Tuning office on 087 091 091 16.

We have the details of your car as

If any of the above is incorrect, please let us know.

Should there be anything further we can help with prior to the even, please let me know

We look forward to seeing you on the day and thank you again for your participation

Best regards

Operations Director
Angel Tuning

For info: All spaces are now full, so the offer is closed to new participants.

Regards.

I've have had only Stephen respond from this forum. So can I assume that no one else has subscribed to the remap day?

I only ask as there are more names on Angel Tuning's list than on the MBClub list.

Thank you.

Thank you to Nigel and his team for their hospitality, the bacon sandwich, coffee and pizza were all a welcome bonus.

It was noce to meet Stephen and the guys from the Mercedes forum. The AMGs with the V8s did sound fantastic :)

Before the remap, peak torque was noticeably between 1800-2500. After 2500 it dropped away very quickly, so I never bothered going there and would keep on changing gear up.

Now after the remap, the torque is higher but seems to last much longer too, maybe until 3500 or 4000. So I can now continue to change gear up early as before and use that extra torque, or if wanting to overtake a milk-float, I can now leave it in gear and accelerate strongly for longer.

All in all, I'm one happy customer.

Update:

Since the remap I have done 700 miles and averaged 73mpg, which is broadly inline with the mpg beforehand, so I remain a happy customer.

The in-gear (5th) acceleration from 50-70mph is especially pleasing

As an aside I'm going to be trying Millers fuel additive again to see if I can get any benefits post remap

Wish I'd come across this thread before. My fathers A2 (tdi 90) has an angel map on it and was done by Nigel I believe. He came to the house to do it.
Since had the car on the rolling road and have a printout which I will scan now.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
As you can see the car holds none of its power and is pretty much pulling standard figures near the red line. Phoned up after I'd been on the rolling road to explain this and see if he would adjust it but he told me to get stuffed and that I was happy with it at the time and too much time has now passed, and that the car is probably knackered.
Peak torque is impressive I must say, though it's a bit pointless as everything dies after 3000rpm.
This taught me one thing - if its not a custom map done with a before and after rolling road - don't bother.
It was a dyno dynamics roller, other cars that went on that day were fabia vrs, ibiza sport tdi, punto hgt, several citroen c2s, a clio 182 and a monaro vxr. All pulled what was expected and it upset me to see the other remapped diesels holding most of their power to the redline.
