Having read through some of the threads on the forum I am pretty sure that the problem I have with my A2 is a convenience unit related issue.
The alarm goes off intermitantly, there is a relay ticking away from under the passenger footwell and the traction control light comes on. Occasionaly the steering warning light comes on as well.
To stop the alarm from going off I disconnect the battery for half an hour and this cures the problem for a few days.

My questions are :

Do I need the specific unit for my 2000 SE model ? (959 433)
If I get hold of one is it plug and play or does it need programming for my car ?
Where is the best place to get hold of one (I have a search running on eBay but not sure if a 2nd hand unit is the best way to go).
I have been quoted £300 for a unit fitted at an Audi garage. Is this the going rate ??!!

Hi Jodie,

I can answer one of the questions for sure and that is the question about plug and play. You will need to match your keys to your new convenience unit. I believe this can be done with VCDS (VAG COM) so if you can get a unit cheap, then a VAG COM owner can help match the keys.

John.

There are various convenience units available, especially online (Ebay etc), so be careful.

They are around £220 from a dealer and they will charge an hour labour to do th recoding, so, yes, that is the rate it seems.

Cheers,

Mike
