Another Dipstick Thread

I've read that the later A2 dipstick has an orange plastic tip rather than the totally useless black one on the earlier models. We have the black one on our 2003 1.6 FSI and I really have no idea how much oil is in it.

Does the one with the orange tip have a different part number or did it just replace the black tipped version? I want to order one and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks,

Interestingly, the parts catalogue only lists dipsticks for the 1.4 petrol and diesel engines and the petrol was replaced in October 2001 with a new type (went from a D suffux to a J - the diesel has always been an E suffix).

I can only suggest that for a fiver you get a new one and see what's what!

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike. I'll give the local stealer a call tomorrow. I can't see it being anywhere close to £5 in Ireland. I'd say close to €20. I'll report back as sson as I get one.

My Diesel had an orange one on and the tip dissapeared from that one. The new one was also orange. It cost around £6 from the dealer.

I will change mine at each service as a precaution, for the sake of £6.

I dropped into the dealer yesterday and the looked up the part no. for the 1.6 FSI dipstick. The part worked out at €15.58 and the dealer assured me that the part number has never changed over the life of the vehicle and that it was highly likely that I would receive the same dipstick with the black tip. Based on that, I didn't bother.

I may take a chance when I'm next up in Belfast and buy it at the much cheaper Sterling price. Ripoff Ireland is alive and well despite the recession.
