My last two refuels have shown personal bests for the 1.4.

Have just returned from a trip to Glasgow - 330 miles in total and about 70% A roads (A69, A72 on the way back, the scenic route!) between 50 and 60, with the cruise set at a constant 70 when on the motorway. Two adults and luggage. Driving as economically as possible.

DIS is currently showing 50.4 MPG! Have never seen anything like it. Mightily impressed. Will wait to calculate the tank average but it should be the same or slightly higher. My town average is normally around 40 so that's a great improvement for the petrol in my book.

A rough calculation makes me think I'd have to get about 53 on the same trip in a TDI to overcome the extra cost of diesel (I.e make it a cheaper trip)...no doubt that'd be no trouble for you lot!

Cheers!

You notice any extra weight in the petrol so getting that with a passenger and their luggage is excellent

WOW That's good , I do 30 miles a day round trip and DIS is showing 40.2 , I do no more than 60mph on dual carriage ways , currently monitoring how many miles I can get from a full tank. I also have the 1.4 Sport Petrol, how many miles can you get from a full tank ?

My record for a full tank is 439 miles I think, I may be on course to beat that for this tank but I think the 439 was absolutely brimmed to the rim and absolutely drained. It's not unknown for me to squeeze in 43 litres ;). 450 is realistically possible IMO, anymore and you'd start to get seriously nervous about breaking down I think.

If you click on the fuelly link in my signature you can get an idea of what my day to day mpg is, not too far off yours. It really all comes down to your driving style IMO, I follow a lot of the simpler hyper miler techniques, essentially driving as carefully as possible most of the time. I enjoy the challenge :D

Cheers

Click my sig and it gives details as well (though it's not 100% complete and up to date, I must sort that :( ).

The wife manages 46 - 47 from the DIS (45 actual) in her 1.6FSi using it for the 40ish mile round trip to work going early but coming back at peak traffic. Journey includes going through Chelmsford. Don't know how she does it..

46-47 sounds very good going by my limited experience - I'm currently getting 41.1 (and it's taken a lot of effort to reach that high, like not using aircon in this heat...) on my commute (similar round trip, mostly fast A and a bit of M way).
What are other 1.6Fsi drivers getting (I'm on Shell V-Max BTW, tried the Esso equiv- nowhere near as good performance)

I'm booked into Worthing for a service and OSS swap in a couple of weeks - I'll see how things improve on a long run.

How carefully are you driving? On paper at least the FSI should better the 1.4. My 'top tips' for improving mpg are probably just to accelerate as little and as slowly as possible. I nearly always change gear at 2000rpm and when possible coast in gear, especially when approaching a junction, as the engine uses no fuel at all in these circumstances. Speed is a killer too, so if I'm not in a hurry I set the cruise to 55-60 on main roads. Took me a lot of practise from when I first got the car though!

Cheers

Well, I am trying pretty hard... changing up well before 3K and keeping to 65-70 on the M way. I'll try dropping the M way speed a little to see if things improve.
Otherwise, not sure what I can try. Maybe the service will improve the MPG a little.

OK, fair improvement driving down to Worthing last Friday - managed an indicated 51mpg at one point. Will see if there's any further improvement when I drive back on Saturday as it'll have been serviced.
The A1 TFSI they have loaned me goes very well for a 1.4 - I wish my FSI was as good!

Now getting just over 45mpg indicated post service on my daily commute, so am pleased that the service has made a difference - car feels smoother and pulls better from low revs.

That's more like it - not sure how my service last week has affected my mpg but I'm not expecting much. Those PBs were 15k miles out from the last service!

Cheers
