Thought I might introduce myself and my A2 and ask for some advice at the same time.
I had a TDi Sport 90 back in 2005 and although I moved on to other cars I never quite lost my soft spot for the little devil. I got my new little devil a few weeks ago, a TDi 75 which seems to be in very good condition with just over 98000 on the clock. I am the third owner, the first being Audi. I admit to paying a good price for it on the basis that I'm not any kind of mechanic and am happy with the result.
However there are a couple of things that need sorting, some very minor bodywork (dent on the rear hatch), perished gaiters on the rear shocks and the engine apparently not reaching temperature. The main thing is that the headlights need replacing. I don't want to go second hand. Having looked on eBay I am not too impressed with what's on offer. So, can someone tell me the best way to get some new ones please? The car has an adjustment function for levelling according to the load carried and I don't know if that has any bearing on the exact replacement. Happy to be advised.
Nice site by the way. Happy to be here

Welcome!

I shall be following this thread with interest as I would also like a new pair of headlight units. Valeo no longer supply the rhd version, and I presume that Audi's supply is also exhausted.

There is nothing to fear regarding second-hand headlight units. If there is some dullness to the front surface(s), that can be easily polished-out. Even if a bracket has been broken, again, it can be easily repaired. They are often available on the A2OC ...... try "A2Steve" ..... he usually has a few for sale.
I.M.H.O., it really isn't worth buying new ....

CreweAudi on here supplied a headlight back in January at £180, so I assume still available new, but at that price I would look at the refurbishment option.

Welcome (back).

I thought I had better explain that Crewe Audi provide a service supplying parts to members through the site, often with a small discount. It's very convenient if you want a genuine Audi part, simply use the messaging system. I usually briefly describe what I want, provide part number if possible and include registration and ask for a price. Quoting registration guarantees a part will fit, avoiding problems with different versions of a part if it changed over the years of production.

A good bodyshop will wet sand the headlights and re-laquer them. Should look as good as new then and will cost about £50-£75 a pair.

Hi Steve,

Are you based in Garstang, Lancashire? Between Preston and Lancaster? If so, I'm based just up the road from you and know A2s well. Admittedly I'm not at home this week, but I'm happy to meet up once I'm back.

Cheers, Tom

Yup I second this. Have a look on FB marketplace as a guy local to me has offer of 2 for £39 at the moment. Will pay a visit once they are back together!
...and welcome!

Welcome Steve. As you know with your name you are in good company ;) Not reaching a solid 90 degrees after 30 minutes of driving is probably thermostat. I also have a tdi 75 with cloudy headlights but will get body shop polish them.

Thanks all. Looks like the verdict is unanimous! I guess there is not too much to lose in having them polished. A friend who runs a garage says they use a machine and jewellers rouge!
