Anyone advice on this Audi A4 Estate

Good evening,

I just found this car which would be a nice addition to our VAG family. It's a left hand drive A4 Avant 1.8T automatic.

I do believe it's the facelifted 8D (B5). Engine reviews are ok, and from the pictures the car looks fine (to bad it doesn't have the original Audi radio).

Has anyone ever had an A4 Avant (B5) and / or the 1.8T (20 valve engine). I'm guessing that in combination with the automatic gearbox it will not be very frugel :(

Any advice is welcome

I've had a b5 A4 (1.9tdi) and that engine in a leon. The B5 is a very good car. That engine can suffer oil starvation when the pick up strainer gets blocked. It terminal for the engine normally. Coil packs can also fail.
That auto gearbox is not the best and had a poor reliability record.
Long life servicing is not good for engine durability and I see that this car has had long gaps between services.

I have a 1999 A4 avant 1.8 20v manual (non turbo) 78k
Its really good on fuel, mid 30 mpg on motorway of you drive sensibly.
Turbos are known for oil sludge!
A friend had a 1.8T 150 bhp and it was brisk, not fast as such but at 130k was healthy with a fsh.
Not a massive car as estates go but comfortable and seems to be lasting well.

We had passat B5 1.9 tdi, superb cars with fab reliability! The best saloon cars vag made in my opinion and still drive as good as the new stuff!
The 1.8 did have a revised larger oil filter (0.4 litre larger capacity) to help with the sludge!
For me the 1.9 TDI AWX (130 bhp 5 speed manual) is the strongest

Just for my own curiosity, why do you want a LHD car in the UK?

When I’ve booked hire cars on holiday I used to unconsciously go to the right hand side frequently, realised and have to walk around. Doh! is what I’d constantly be saying to myself. ?

Anyway, back to topic, had a few friends with that version of the A4 with this engine and the autos were quite a lot less frugal than the manuals. Those that had the 1.9 TDI’s (110) found they were bulletproof and really frugal

The 110 is the ve engine and does have a potential for better fuel efficency but is older and costs more to tax unless you drop on a golden y reg. These are the older shape but cheaper road tax saving around £100 (only the diesel as far as I know)

Hi all.
Had an Audi a4 1.8t quattro sport saloon many years ago and loved it. Swap out the turbo vacuum valve (plastic) for the more reliable audi tt 225 version. Look out for failed aircon pumps(clutch) and as said oil sludge. On any turbo petrol car if driven hard allow to idle for 2-3 minutes to allow turbo to cool. And obviously good quality oil/filters service kits etc.
Thanks Steve
